The Role:
The Senior Engineer Energy and Other Utilities position is in Amsterdam where one of the Regional Energy System and Utilities groups is located and will primarily work with:
1.Customers within clients and subsidieries Refineries, Chemical Plants, NG/LNG Plants, E&P sites, etc
2.Group HSE and other RDS businesses.
3. Internal customers within the clients P&T organisation (Projects and GS upstream, downstream and IRD groups) .

The Senior Energy Systems and Other Utilities will contribute to projects. Typically 15-40% of the CAPEX for new petrochemical plants is for Utility Systems, in the order of hundreds of millions of dollars .
The typically energy consumption is 4-10% of intake, 40-95% of this is used for utilities. Reliability and energy consumption optimization plays a key role in minimizing the energy consumption.
The Senior Engineer Energy Systems and Other Utilities is member of the Utilities, Energy and Heat Transfer Engineering Delivery Group.
The vision and goals of the Utilities, Energy and Heat Transfer Engineering Delivery Group delivery group (and of the individual) are:
- To be a service provider of first choice with a clear added value.

-To deliver for the energy & utilities systems, excl. (process) water treatment and integration, technical and consulting type of services
- To work for our operating companies, joint ventures and non-shell customers as activity leader or via the process technology and/or project groups.
- To lead initiatives concerning reliability, availability, operability, safety, technology development, research guidance, etc.
- To develop, maintain and apply innovative knowledge in this field

Within the global group of Energy Systems and Utilities there is a Principle Technology Expert (PTE) and some 4 Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) who are linked with the global discipline head and are accountable for global coordination within their subject area.

The successful applicants will play a key role in the Energy Systems & Other Utilities team, supplying services, in a commercially oriented manner, to various customers. The job responsibilities will include (depending on the level of expertise, seniority and background of the applicant):
- Providing troubleshooting, de-bottlenecking and technical support for energy systems and other utilities options to our clients. This work includes site visits as well as desk studies.
- Providing technical expertise in the field of heat and power systems, heat transfer fluids, and other utilities like instrument air, nitrogen and oxygen systems (industrial gasses).
- Designing energy- and other utilities systems including the integration of these facilities with process schemes.
-Supporting with 'hot' utilities know-how, specific process or engineering skill groups and work together with these groups/specialists to deliver and optimal solution to the customer.
-Supporting projects and other clients with utilities reliability assessment and improvement programs.
- Giving guidance to utilities technology development, design practices and procurement standards, especially in the LNG field.
- Playing an active role in technology development activities in this field.
- Giving training.
- Supporting technology development activities in this field.

Once well established in the job, business travel is likely to take place up to approximately 25% of working time.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
The Senior Engineer Energy Systems & Other Utilities should preferably have a BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
He/She is expected to bring 10+ years of professional experience, including at least 1 assignment in utilities on a site, into our Utilities discipline.
He/She is expected to have a sound background in utilities engineering.

The Energy Systems Specialist is expected to have Skill to Mastery level in the key discipline area competencies as indicated below:
- Energy systems incl heat transfer fluids
- Fuel systems and flare recovery
- Cooling systems
- Instrument air and other industrial gases
