The Role:
The Heat Transfer Engineer is part of the Utilities and Heat Transfer Engineering Delivery Group.
The vision and goals of the delivery group (and of the individual) are:

- To lead equipment area initiatives concerning reliability, availability, operability, safety, technology development, research guidance, etc.

- Technical consulting and support primarily in area of Fired Heat transfer.
- Joint responsibility for supporting IR Thermography service offering within AUHT
- Troubleshooting, de-bottlenecking and technical support for fired equipment in operating plants, including heaters, boilers, incinerators; this consultancy work includes site visits as well as desk studies.
- Heater/boiler operating data analysis and interpretations.
- Preparation of heat transfer equipment design (thermal, hydraulic, and mechanical).
- Project support / quality assurance.
- Training.
- Guidance to technology development, design practices and procurement standards.
- Technical Assurance for projects and services within the Heat Transfer discipline.
- R&D activities in the field of heat transfer.

Individual Contributor. Must be able to work effectively and independently or within team as required. Should be able to lead fairly large technical efforts without direct oversight.

The Heat Transfer Specialist is expected to deliver integrated solutions, that requires apart from the heat transfer skills, a sound understanding of the processes in which the heat transfer equipment is applied and understanding of the business environment. Although the HT Engineer will work principally in one region, peers within the Discipline are located in three regions. Alignment of technologies, workload sharing and optimization can be challenging

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
B.S. Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. Minimum 5 years field experience.
- The Heat Transfer Specialist is expected to have a sound background in engineering, as well as knowledge in the field of heat transfer and physics of transport phenomena and fluid flow, although this may depend on job group.
- Experience on incident investigation teams and applying the learnings from those efforts to improve equipment reliability / performance.
- Ability to obtain and analyzer infrared images for normal circumstances and handle some complex analysis when required. Several years actual experience with IR
- Strong field execution skills, candidate should be able to direct construction activities during furnace retrofit / replacement efforts, work with the construction organization on developing execution plan for the work, provide Technical QC for such activities, then work with operations staff to provide start-up support for that equipment, be it burner retrofits, or entire furnace replace
