The Role:
Guide and contribute to the evaluation of well and seismic data in order to define exploration prospects and prospective drilling locations that could result in an economically viable project in existing PSCs and/or New Venture opportunities. Integrate and conduct regional / block-wide tectono-stratigraphic and play analysis as required. Provide input to well planning and formation evaluation programmes as required for the execution of PSC work programmes. Contribute to the design and planning of post-drill analytical studies as required. Specific technical studies will support a refresh of prospect inventory and include regional mapping and play-based exploration methodology.

The Senior Geologist, Exploration must work effectively within an integrated team, maintaining open communications with peers, with a common sense of purpose. He/she should use their expertise to influence and impact peers within their section, in addition to mentoring staff in geological aspects as appropriate. Roles at this level demonstrate critical thinking abilities and show confidence in executing assigned tasks.

• Provide geological interpretations related to 2D/3D seismic, attribute analysis, geological data and appropriate petrophysical and petroleum engineer data.
• Assess the potential of blocks from a geological standpoint in order to compile proposals to the Government for gas-holding, extension or award.

• Assemble, correlate, and arrange geological models & maps; construct and maintain original maps and cross sections showing available geotechnical information; develop other informative
• statistics regarding geotechnical data to aid in more successful and efficient exploration, and advise on the appropriate application of this information and its significance.

Fully conversant with standard LWD and wireline log types, and their use in stratigraphic analysis and identification of lithologies and fluids.

Provide geological context to geophysical interpretations e.g. attribute work.

Perform full geological, structural and sedimentological interpretations of all pertinent data and deliver geological maps (e.g. structure, isochore, play fairway analyses of GDE maps,
basin models, common risk segments, etc) in order to identify prospects and leads which can be matured into prospects that can be drilled.

Generate new play opportunities and champion new approaches to generating prospects and plays that exceed economic and reserve thresholds.

• Understand sequence stratigraphic principles and support geophysicists in the interpretation and understanding of basin fill sequences, with emphasis on the various elements of the
petroleum system.

Participate in (with geophysicists & reservoir engineers) identification, ranking and drilling recommendations for prospects within a given area.

Evaluate all prospects within a defined territory and rank them in order of risk to shortlist prospects for drilling.

Assess the risk of proven, probable and possible volumes of Oil and Gas in place.

In conjunction with Reservoir Engineering, combine volumetrics with reservoir information to determine recovery value which is used by senior management to make decisions.

• Recommend prospects to Team Lead and VOP-Exploration for approval, providing input into approval documents as required.

Work within the framework of “Play Based Exploration” to enable to comparatively rank exploration portfolio.

• Define surface location for drilling

Generate predicted sections for proposed wells as required

Provide input regarding formation evaluation programmes

Assist in estimation of costs for drilling and/or economic analysis as required.

• Provide input during drilling activity to determine whether wells meet exploration objectives. Address drilling issues that may arise during operations as required.

• Assist the Malaysia BU and regional New Ventures team in Singapore in identifying new ventures or blocks for exploration as required.

• Contribute to the preparation of the Geological unit budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget to facilitate adherence to unit's goals & objectives as required.

Work in an integrated “Team Style” manner, Communicate with peers. Maintain awareness of team member’s technical work and integrate, not duplicate.

Keep abreast with changing industry trends, technical innovations, new techniques and procedures.

Recommend improvements to departmental procedure and direct the implementation of instructions and controls covering specific areas of geological activity.

Store data in common knowledge areas (server), and communicate findings.

Develop and maintain contacts with stakeholders on technical issues to provide advice.

• Mentor exploration staff in geological concepts, analyses, interpretation and evaluation of geological and other relevant data in order to enhance their knowledge and skills

• Share interpretation techniques and work flows with the Exploration Group and assure quality of geological assessment within within the department.

Assist team in preparing block commitment reports.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences, Geophysics or Geology. A Masters degree in related field would be preferred.
• Extensive experience in geological interpretation and mapping.
• Experience with New Ventures evaluations. Ability to work across both exploration and development projects.
• Ability to frame and manage work program and budget relevant to role.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Minimum 15 years of experience in the E&P industry and 7 years in a Senior Geologist / Geoscientist role.
• Minimum 3 years SE Asian exploration experience is essential, and development experience a plus
