The Role:
Position Overview

Reporting to the Subsurface Manager, the Senior Geologist will be part of a multi-disciplinary sub-surface team that will be responsible for the long-term management, development and optimisation of large, mature fields and associated satellites. The Senior Geologist will provide geological input into the development (and appraisal) activities associated with the fields and discoveries in the asset.


Accountable for the following activities:

• Generate and mature new ideas and leads, documenting the remaining potential of the area
• Construction and maintenance of geological models for the fields and discoveries in the asset
• Manage geological studies carried out by 3rd party contractors and vendors
• Work with the other members of the multi-disciplinary sub-surface team to identify infill drilling opportunities
• Planning wells and monitoring and evaluation of well results
• Acting for the Subsurface Manager when required.

Key Duties

Duties include but not limited to the following:

• High quality geological input into development projects and ongoing field operations
• Generate 3D geocellular models to aid field development and exploration activities
• Participation in multi-disciplinary project teams
• Generation of drilling prospects, planning wells and monitoring and evaluation of well results
• Bring in new technologies that improve subsurface understanding of the area
• Other duties consistent with employee's expertise and status may also be assigned according to business needs

The key internal interfaces in the role are with other members of the multi-disciplinary subsurface team, D&C, Wells Management, Operations and Projects personnel involved in the work programme and the development opportunity projects, the LT and ExCom. The key external interfaces in the role are 3rd party contractors and vendors, partners and regulatory authorities.

Education attainment & Accreditation

• Degree qualified, or equivalent, preferably to MSc or higher level

Professional skills & experience

• Excellent technical background in petroleum geology
• Significant relevant industry experience
• Ability to build and use 3D geological models
• Ideally recent North Sea experience
• Involvement in project drilling operations

Interpersonal skills & qualities

• Selected candidates will display exceptional interpersonal/communication skills and an eagerness to be a contributing member of a highly effective team of professionals
• Ability to generate new ideas and leads in maturing areas
