The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, seeks expertise for their mega-projects in Canada.

This opportunity is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only. First consideration will be given to residents of Newfoundland & Labrador.

The Role:

Specific responsibilities will include:

-Providing geophysical expertise as a key member of a team of geoscientists responsible for supporting development and exploration.
-Planning and executing seismic programs.
-Supervising seismic data processing.
-Overseeing specialised geophysical and interpretation projects.
-Performing technical evaluations.
-Assisting in preparing regulatory applications and interfacing with the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board.
-Maintaining and enhancing knowledge and skills by keeping informed of technical advancements in the geosciences field.
-Presenting internally to peers and management, as well as externally to partners.
-Coaching and mentoring junior geoscientists within the team.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
-A Bachelor of Science in Geophysics is required.
-Eligibility for Professional Geoscientist status with the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland & Labrador (PEGNL).
-Minimum 10 years' experience in a geophysicist role working within the oil and gas industry; those with lesser experience (minimum 5 years) will also be considered.
-Seismic acquisition and processing experience.
-Experience working both pre-stack time and pre-stack depth domains.
-Strong computing skills.
-Knowledge of synthetic seismogram generation and modeling, and velocity modeling and depth conversion, including anisotropy.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
-A Master of Science and/or Ph. D in a Geoscience discipline.
-Prior experience working with the geology and geophysics of offshore Eastern Canada.
-Experience with Vertical Seismic Profile (VSP) application for exploration and development wells, quantitative seismic interpretation (AVO, Inversion, rock physics and attribute analysis), and structural seismic interpretation.
-Strong software knowledge, such as: Landmark, Petrel, Hampson-Russell.
-Ability to work and communicate effectively internally and externally within a relatively small local contingent of geoscientists, both from other companies as well as government agencies.
-Desire and ability to coach and mentor junior geoscientists within the team.
-Superior analytical skills and ability to identify key issues based on relevant data and provide appropriate solutions /recommendations.
-Proven ability to work in a team environment dealing with people from various disciplines.
