The Role:
*The successful candidate will need to have current transferable SC clearance*

The Senior Hardware Engineer is responsible to the Head of Equipment & Products for executing allocated Hardware Work Packages within agreed cost, time and quality constraints.

The Senior Hardware Engineer is responsible for demonstrating that the developed product meets all specified product and customer requirements, by
* Specifying hardware architectures and solutions to problem statements
* Performing in-house electronics design for allocated area of responsibility
* Adequately documenting the design for allocated area of responsibility
* Reviewing the work of the other members of the team
* Supporting the company Hardware development process and procedure updates

* To ensure Electronics hardware is designed, developed, integrated and tested with client's standards and all supporting documents are produced in accordance with client's standards.
* Appropriate processes, tools and methodologies are used to design and deliver allocated electronics hardware development work packages meeting cost, time and quality targets, agreed with their development team leader.
* Electronics hardware technical design decisions are made within the context of known practices, established precedents and acquired technical expertise.
* The cost/benefits of design possibilities are understood, and that judgement calls can be made based on them.
* The provision of technical guidance to fellow team members in electronics hardware development tools and methodologies.
* Success of both internal and external design reviews and project reviews throughout the development life cycle.
* The support of the design and development of critical components where decisions may have a significant impact on project timescales.
* Customer liaison, by representing the client on project related technical matters at Stakeholder meetings.
* Design and Development by taking a technical role as a Prime on a critical component where necessary.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* Must have experience of the digital design and implementation for data/voice equipment using high speed microprocessor, memory, FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) components
* Must have proven capability to design high speed electronics equipment that is CE compliant with EMC (Electromagnetic compatibility), safety and RoHS ( Restriction of Hazardous substances) criteria
* Must have excellent electronics hardware development process knowledge
* Must be able to carry-out development tasks of up to 6 months duration with very limited supervision
* Must be familiar with high speed digital design standards and techniques
* Must have a good understanding of requirements capture, and of work package definition and estimation
* Must be highly self-motivated, articulate, with good verbal and written communications skills
* Must have good team working skills

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
* Experience of product design for some or all of the following:
o Cryptographic Key Management and Distribution systems
o Cryptographic devices
o Secure Communications systems
o Secure Communications Network Devices
* Experience of electronics hardware development to meet UK approved cryptographic/TEMPEST design criteria
* Recent experience of using one or more of the following tools:
o Orcad Capture
o Orcad PCB Designer
o Design spark PCB
