The Company:
Our client is a Major International EPC Company executing industrial mega-projects in Canada.

This opportunity is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents only. First consideration will be given to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Role:
DIRECTION EXERCISED AND AUTHORITY:
The Senior Hydraulics Engineer has the responsibility and commensurate authority to support the Project during the design and construction by providing hydraulic input and interpretation as required.

DIRECTION RECEIVED AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Act in accordance with the Project Instructions, and as approved by the Lead Hydraulics Engineer. The incumbent will be located in the St. John’s office. The incumbent will be required to work independently while maintaining strong communications with the Hydraulic Team located outside the province. The incumbent will work under the direction of the Engineering Manager.
This position will also interface with Area Managers, Construction Managers, and the various discipline leads, as required.

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY OF SCOPE:
• Undertake the hydrotechnical support of design and construction of the Project.

• Develop and document a river management strategy to be implemented during the diversion phase of the project.

• Assist the client in the development of long term operational procedures for river management.

• Provide interpretation of trends in river flows and water levels, ice cover development and breakup.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare all technical documentation required for the hydrotechnical work for the support of the project during construction as directed by the Engineering Manager, with the support of the Lead Hydraulics Engineer, including, but not limited to:

• Design criteria
• Preliminary studies
• Value engineering studies
• Technical specifications
• Responses to Site Queries
• Input to design by other disciplines (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, etc)

Other duties include:

• Manage and coordinate the progress of the hydrotechnical engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule and procedures.

• Review of contractor submissions to ensure conformity with engineering designs.

• After the award of contracts and purchase orders as instructed, monitor the construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering design.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
In order for applicants to be considered for this position, their resume must clearly demonstrate that they have the following:
• Masters of Applied Science degree in hydraulics engineering, or civil engineering with a hydrotechnical specialty.

• Registration or eligible for immediate registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
• A minimum of ten years of professional experience in hydrology and hydraulics
• Current professional related engineering experience, with specific experience in large dams and major water resource structures.
• A minimum of five years experience in the hydroelectric engineering consulting sector.
• Particular experience in river and water management during construction and operation is sought,
• Experience in hydraulic modelling, design, flow forecasting and flood management an asset.

• Advanced written and verbal communication skills required to effectively interact with a variety of industry personnel;
• Ability to develop processes and articulate within the project organization;
• Ability to quickly assimilate new data, including highly technical information;
• Strong ability to use Microsoft applications such as word, excel, outlook, power point, etc.
• Skilled in the use of hydrotechnical design tools and modeling software ;
