The Role:
Job Summary

- The primary function is to provide onshore Instrument and Control engineering work directly in support of Nexen’s UK operated assets.
- You will provide technical advice and support on all aspects of Instrument & Control engineering.
- You will lead small projects supported by internal and external consultant / contractor personnel, as well as acting as the Instrument & Control Technical Authority.
- You will supervise and guide direct reports.


- Perform Instrument & Control Technical authority role, including; answering technical queries, review of engineering change requests, design reviews – HAZOP/HAZID, review of safety critical failure reports, and review of Non-standard operations.
- Direct Instrument design work as part of brownfield modifications undertaken by engineering and construction contractor and consultants. Review and approve class 1 & 2 documentation (e.g. C&E)
- Mature strategy to manage obsolescence concerns and initiate projects - including ESD, F&G, and DCS systems to improve facilities in line with business needs, conduct financial analysis for recommendations.
- Ensuring work is completed in compliance with Industry and Nexen Engineering standards, policies, procedures and regulations. Review and update Performance Standards.
- Develop & implement operating philosophies and set standards for assessment criteria. Review and update of operating procedures.
- Ensure that the control processes are optimised; implement performance monitoring and improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate Instrument & Control equipment compliance with performance standards to Nexen, Verification body and Regulator.
- Develop and maintain positive and constructive relationships with the Engineering & Subsea Operations team stakeholders e.g. O&M teams, Nexen Uxbridge office, engineering contractor and consultants etc.
- Provide regular feedback to Engineering Team Lead on Instrument & Control engineering activities, progress, issues, successes, areas of concern and requirements for additional support.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Engineering degree / Chartered Engineer
• Current Offshore survival certificate and medical

• Previous Instrument & Control Engineering experience of offshore oil and gas facilities design and operation
• A thorough understanding of process control systems, safety shutdown systems and related field instrumentation.
• Proven track record of identifying and developing sound and innovative technical solutions
• Effective communicator both written and verbal
• Previous experience of a technical authority role within an operator would be advantageous
