The Role:
Basic Purpose of Job:
• Ensure that all allocated responsibilities are dealt with in accordance with agreed procedures & standards. Ensure that the Client business drivers and client performance incentives are understood & complied with.
• Maintain technical integrity.
• Production of cost effective Instrument engineering reports, documents and deliverables for inclusion in workpacks and design books in conjunction with other members of the project team in a timely and efficient manner.
• Support the Lead Engineer in department activities.

Supervisory and Managerial Duties:
• Supervision of assigned discipline personnel including Instrument Engineers, Graduate Engineers and Designers.
• Give technical direction and guidance to engineering and design personnel

Main Duties:
• Ensure that the technical competence of Instrument personnel under their supervision is matched to the work in hand
• Ensure that the work output of Instrument personnel under their supervision complies with the relevant client, national & international standards & procedures. This will be generally be achieved by applying the client checking & approval procedure for all created documents, & calculations.
• Provide technical assistance to Instrument personnel as required. This will include developing the knowledge and skills of the Instrument personnel, including mentoring.
• Ensure as far as practically possible all assigned work is carried out in compliance with agreed budget and schedule
• Be conversant and knowledgeable with respect to current and new legislation and standards e.g., BS, API and Client codes and standards, DCR and HS&E Regulations and EU Directives
• Prepare engineering and construction scope for both man-hours and equipment estimates and assist in the review of proposed schedules.
• Ensure that results of any development work are fully utilised in Instrument activities
• Provide technical assistance to other disciplines as required
• Providing documentation and drawing deliverables for inclusion in workpacks and design books on time to meet offshore deadlines
• Producing cost effective designs that are fit for purpose and safe
• Participate as necessary in discussions with Clients and visit job sites as required
• Assist the Lead Instrument Engineer when requested in the execution of their responsibilities and duties

Health and Safety Responsibilities:
• Shall take into account all aspects of the "Health and Safety at Work etc. Act (1974)",
• Knowledge of, compliance with and promotion of office, site and contract/project health and safety guidelines and procedures.
• Comply with the client’s Safety Management System
• Take part and contribute to construction risk assessments and construction method statements
• Take into account all relevant procedures, guidance etc. relating to the work, which will ensure compliance with the client Safety Management System

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Degree in an Instrument engineering related discipline.
• HNC or equivalent in an Instrument engineering related discipline.
• Chartered
• Knowledge & practical application of some or all of the following engineering topics:
• Field Instrumentation - Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Level, Pneumatics etc
• Wellhead Control Panels / Hydraulic Power Units ( WHCP / HPU )
• Instrumentation / Equipment for use in Hazardous Areas.
• Control Valves, Shutdown Valves, Choke Valves and PSV's
• Diverse Protection Systems - HIPPS, IOPPS etc
• Emergency / Process Shutdown ( ESD / PSD ) Systems
• Fire and Gas ( F & G ) Systems
• Process / Distributed Control Systems ( PCS / DCS )
• Sub-Sea Control Systems ( SSCS )
• Programmable Logic Controllers ( PLC )
• Metering Systems
• Package Vendor Interface Management
• BOSIET/FOET Offshore Survival Certificate and Medical
• For degree qualified personnel; the completion of an IET / IMC recognised graduate training programme including a per

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Experience within the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical Industry will be preferable but not essential.
• Suitable experience within other engineering industries will be considered where appropriate.
• Capable of representing the client and Client to business associates in a professional manner
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Team player
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office Applications
• Displays confidence in own abilities and is motivated to deliver
• Ability to investigate and interpret data
• Ability to be responsive and open to changing circumstances
• Ability to motivate and supervise other discipline personnel
