The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

As a result of a recent project award they are currently looking to recruit a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be based at their offices in Harwell, Oxfordshire

The Role:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is principally a design delivery role from a technical perspective working as part of a multi-disciplined design team, or alone.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is often asked to take on the role of Nominated Engineer at which point they become responsible for the management of engineers within the design team from other disciplines.

The responsibilities of the Senior Mechanical Engineer will involve the checking and approving design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team.

Management of installation, commissioning and operating documents, will be carried out by the Senior Mechanical Engineer.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is the probable lead of design reviews, safety reviews (risk assessments/ HAZOP’s) from technical standpoint within the discipline.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
It is expected that candidates for the Senior Mechanical Engineer (Nuclear) role will be Degree qualified in a relevant technical / engineering discipline.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Membership to appropriate institutions is preferred e.g. CIBSE, MIMechE.

Chartered Engineer status is normal for the role of Senior Mechanical Engineer (Nuclear) and is largely driven by client expectations however this is not always a limiting factor and candidates nearing Chartership are eligible.
