The Company:
Our Client is a large Automotive and Commercial Vehicle OEM, with a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering on a contract basis. These opportunities are typically based in their research and development facility located in Dunton which is the largest automotive technical centre in the United Kingdom.

The Role:
Senior Manual Transmission Applications Engineer
An experienced project / integration engineer is required to work within the Manual Transmissions group. The successful candidate will have responsibility for the design and release of the manual transmission system for the associated vehicle lines in conjunction with a JV supplier. Lead the integration of the transmission system into the vehicle to meet specific vehicle level function and attribute requirements (brand specific DNA) with responsibility for the design, development and releasing of the systems to meet cost, weight, reliability, NVH and durability objectives.
Responsible for gathering and analysing powertrain and vehicle functional requirements, and translating these into component & sub-system specifications.

Managing and updating these specifications consistent with ongoing customer, corporate and legal requirements. Work with other functional activities or trust-mark groups to identify common best practise system solutions. Manage interface with suppliers from the target setting process through the design, verification, release and launch.

Develop project plans for the Manual Transmission system to suit Vehicle Program Plans and prototype vehicle phases. Manage the delivery of hardware to support program timing. Track warranty and field performance and manage ongoing product development to support implementation of quality improvements and cost reductions when required. Generate new, or maintain existing, test documentation that supports the functional verification of the system. Support the delivery of the DV test plan for the system. Be capable of working at a high level of proficiency without high levels of supervision. Good communications skills to enable design concepts to be shared with the CPMT, supply base, vehicle and engine program teams are essential

Skills Required:
Understanding of systems engineering development cycle (V cycle). Awareness of vehicle and powertrain attribute requirements (e.g. NVH, Performance, Economy, emissions, etc.). Self-motivated with excellent team and leadership skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to deliver within programme constraints

Skills Preferred:
Familiar with Ford Product Development Processes (GPDS, FMEA, WERS, AIMS, eFDVS, etc) Knowledge of manual transmission design, function and integration into automotive applications. Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering project delivery. Prior sub system design and release experience and familiarity

Experience Required:
Experience / knowledge of project management process/tools/methodologies (e.g. PRINCE2) Experience of supplier relationship management; design & development collaboration, validation and production.

Experience Preferred:
Experience in leading multi-functional teams ¿ Experience in vehicle evaluation of Installed Powertrain attributes beneficial.

Education Required:
Degree (in Mechanical, Automotive Engineering or equivalent) required or completed two thirds of formal study towards a degree course and commitment to complete studies.

Additional Information :
Travel as required to support product related launches and liaise with suppliers.
