The Company:
Our client has been established for over 20 years locally and is focused on delivering design solutions to the nuclear industry, specialising in the design of mechanical handling plant and equipment, the design and installation of plant control systems and the provision of support to plant safety reviews.

The Role:
Our Client is an established supplier of specialist engineering, manufacturing and technical services for applications within challenging environments or high integrity requirements. The flexibility, technical expertise and integration of our multi-disciplined design teams is the basis of many effective and valuable long-term relationships with major companies within the nuclear, aerospace, process and general engineering industries and in defence and the blue light services.

Following on from our success and having formed part of our clients Group of Companies we are now looking for talented individuals to join are skilled and expanding team based in West Cumbria.

The role: We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to work alongside a developing team to support existing and potential new projects. The successful candidate will be required to supervise and lead a team of design engineers and complete the following:


1. Ensuring that all work on a specific project being produced complies with the client design specification and relevant standards.

2. Supervision of all design team members within the team working on the allocated projects.

3. Interface with specialist consultants within nominated discipline.

4. Ensure completeness of design packages presented to the Design Manager/Lead Engineer for comment, review, approval etc.

5. Ensure continuity of workload for design team members working on a specific project.

6. Attend site surveys.

7. Maintain all project related Quality Assurance matters including the updating of the Project Diary.

8. Interface with client on project related matters including Requests for Information, Technical Queries etc.

9. Attend discipline-related meetings with the client when requested by the Design Manager/Lead Engineer.

10. Check completed design deliverables against client specifications and standards.

11. Interface with other disciplines to ensure compliance with their requirements, equipment and service locations.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Experienced 3D design skills
• Experience in mechanical design and coordinating equipment layouts
• Experience producing/supervising the production of detail designs
• Some experience producing mechanical calculations
• Some experience producing mechanical documentation to support designs i.e. outline installation method statement, DJR, DAR, Design Risk Assessment, Technical Files.
• Good communication skills.
• HNC Mechanical Engineering (or related engineering discipline)

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Autodesk Inventor user
• Some experience in research developing new equipment / machinery
• Experience in FEA and the use of ‘ANSYS’ software
• Experience of design for nuclear sites/facilities
• Experience of working on projects for Sellafield site and conversant with design processes, procedures and standards.
• Experience checking and design drawings/documentation
• Degree Qualified
• IEng or CEng accredited, or working towards either.
