The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

The Role:
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client who are looking to recruit a senior engineer who is experience with mechanical handling equipment i.e. Cranes.

The senior engineer is principally a design delivery role from a technical perspective working across a multi-disciplined design team. As such you will be responsible for delivering mechanical design with frequent liaison / management of engineers within the design team from other disciplines. You will also provide technical guidance and mentorship to Lead Engineers, Design engineers, Graduates and Designers
• Deputise as the intelligent customer reviewing the Crane Design of the sub contractors
• Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications
• Checking and approving design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team
• Probable lead of design reviews, safety reviews (risk assessments/ HAZOP’s) from technical standpoint within discipline
• Close liaison with client and project team to prepare technical specifications for the design
• Ensure quality and delivery of design documentation throughout the design process including scope of works, method statements, risk assessments, technical files and other technical documentation to comply with design standards, safety legislation/regulatory requirements and the needs of the client
• Management of installation, commissioning and operating documents
• Demonstrable competence gained in a design delivery position within a project based environment
• Experience in the nuclear sector is preferred but not essential. It is a requirement of the position to demonstrate experience gained in a design delivery role ideally from a highly regulated industry. This could be from but is not limited to the Defence, Pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas, Automotive, Water or Food industry sectors
• Technical experience could be gained from but is not limited to precision engineering, remote handling systems / equipment, heavy engineering, cranes
Experience and/or ability of leading a technical team within a professional project delivery environment are necessary for this position

Degree qualified in a relevant technical/engineering discipline is essential. Chartered Engineer status is normal for this position and is largely driven by client expectations however this is not always a limiting factor and candidates nearing chartership are eligible. Membership to appropriate institutions is preferred e.g. CIBSE, MIMechE. A full UK drivers licence is essential for this position as travelling between offices may be required
