The Company:
Our client is a leading international minerals and metals producer. They are executing mega-projects in the province of Newfoundland & Labrador.

This opportunity is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents only. First consideration will be given to residents of Newfounland and Labrador.

The Role:
This position will initially start at the St. John’s Project Office and transition to client's site in Newfoundland, within 2013.
The Opportunity:

As a senior member of the Central Engineering Team, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical expertise in the mechanical & piping disciplines to the Client's site. This will involve serving as a technical SME on engineering studies and sustaining capital projects through the Planning, Design and Execution phases.
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical direction to external engineering consultants & construction contractors and will also be expected to provide technical guidance and mentoring to other members of the Central Engineering Team.

Accountabilities:

- As a senior member of the Central Engineering team, provide expert technical expertise/support to the entire Client's site- Provide technical direction to external engineering consultants and reviewing the quality of their engineering deliverables
- Provide technical direction to construction contractors in the mechanical & piping disciplines and assessing the quality of their work in the field
- Execute in-house mechanical engineering studies/assessments and design work through the utilization of the data-centric 3D and CAD tools.
- Certification of lifting devices
- Providing technical support and mentorship to other members of the Central Engineering Team
- Responsible for translating operational needs into detailed design requirements.
- Responsible for the accurate preparation of engineering design deliverables such as drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
- Support the development of project budgets and schedules by providing expert knowledge and developing material take-offs based on engineering deliverables.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering
- Eligible for registration with PEG-NL

Minimum 8 years’ experience, preferably in a complex industrial setting
Knowledge

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Must have experience in the mechanical & piping disciplines and experience in working in a heavy industrial operating plant, preferably in the mining industry.
- Familiarity with Engineering Codes and Standards.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of FRP Pipe is a strong asset.
