The Company:
Our client is a Major International EPC Company executing industrial mega-projects in Canada.

This opportunity is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents only. First consideration will be given to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Role:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer has the responsibility and commensurate authority for the design and the review of submissions during the installation of piping and HVAC systems for the powerhouse complex.

Act in accordance with the Project Instructions, and as approved by the Lead Mechanical Engineer. This position will also interface with Area Managers, Construction Managers, and the project mechanical team.

PURPOSE AND SUMMARY OF SCOPE:
• Prepare all technical documentation as required and be responsible for review of contractor submission to ensure they meet the project requirements.
• Design completion and reviewof piping and HVAC systems.
• Review, comment and acceptance of Contractors’ manufacturing and installation drawings.
• Support during installation, commissioning and testing.
• Related work on interfaces with Mechanical and Civil disciplines for Balance of Plant.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare all technical documentation required for the mechanical work related to the piping and HVAC on the project as directed by the Lead Mechanical Engineer, including, but not limited to:
• Preparing detailed piping design schedule;
• Preparing design criteria;
• Supervising design and drafting team;
• Overseeing drafting and design quality;
• Design change control;
• Preparing issues of drawings/documents;
• Maintaining piping group vendor files;
• Coordinating with other disciplines;
• Liaising with project/client;
• Conducting Model reviews.


Other duties include:

• Manage and coordinate the progress of the piping and HVAC engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule and procedures.

• Review shop drawings and contractor submissions to ensure conformity with engineering designs.

• After the award of contracts and purchase orders as instructed, monitor the construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering design.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
In order for applicants to be considered for this position, their resume must clearly demonstrate that they have the following:
• Bachelors of Applied Science degree in mechanical engineering.

• Registration or eligible for immediate registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador.



RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
• Engineers require 10-20 years previous experience. Experience should be in the hydroelectric industry, experience in the oil and gas industry may also be considered.
• Experience in piping layouts and knowledge of P&ID’s;
• Experience developing plant layouts as well as designing and maintaining process pressure piping systems;
• Strong skills in developing area layouts and piping designs from conceptual studies through to issuing of isometrics and drawings;
• Proven track record in formal analysis of piping systems utilizing either Caesar or Autopipe Sof

• Self-starter, who identifies priority tasks, puts plans in place to complete, and delivers;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with a variety of personnel, and other industry participants, both internal and external;
• Thrives to be an active team player, but can effectively work independently;
• Proven skills in effectively managing multiple tasks, often under pressure and within time constraints;
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills required to effectively interact with a variety of industry personnel;
• Ability to develop processes and articulate within the project organization;
• Ability to quickly assimilate new data, including highly technical information;
• Strong ability to use Microsoft applications such as word, excel, outlook, power point, etc.
• Occasional site visits may be required during construction phase of project.
