The Company:
Our client is a major global Oil and Gas EPC management company that can cover small Brownfield projects to major Greenfield projects.
They are a growth company who can serve as a Sole Supplier, Joint Venture or Subcontractor. With a proven track record of delivering large scale complex projects they are a progressive and attractive company.

The Role:
We are currently sourcing a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the North East Teesside Office on an Agency hire basis.

The candidate will be a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a substantial, recent and proven track record in onshore oil and gas, LNG, refinery, chemical or petrochemical projects and will be able to demonstrate experience, in a similar and relevant position, of FEED and detail design.

Good communication and presentation skills are essential.

6 months plus duration

Some travel within and outside the UK may be required.

The individual will be self-motivated with a proven track record and able to perform all stages of Project Mechanical engineering and be experienced in the specification and procurement of static and rotating mechanical equipment packages, with responsibility for delivering project requirements within budget and timescale.

Checking of other engineers work will also be expected.


To undertake Mechanical Engineering design work with true regard to Safety and in compliance with national and Client Codes & Standards.
Must be capable and experienced in producing equipment specifications & data sheets, enquiry requisitions, bid evaluations, purchase requisitions and reviewing vendor documentation for a wide range of mechanical equipment.
Coordinate all activities with other engineering disciplines in order to allow their work to proceed.
Creating and thereafter maintaining Project Mechanical Specifications and Standards.
Monitoring the checking, approval and internal and external review of all Project mechanical deliverables within his control to ensure that they meet company, project and Client quality requirements.
Assisting with the development of the project purchasing and supply chain strategy and approved vendor lists.
Liaising with Clients, Licensors, other design disciplines and suppliers on technical and other mechanical design matters on a regular basis and in a professional manner
Providing technical support to the Material Control and Plant Design departments.
Experienced in managing a team of mechanical engineers executing technical requisitions for long lead items.
Able to provide guidance, support and demonstrate sound technical judgement to project mechanical engineering team
Working knowledge of small specialist pumps, shop built atmos tanks, pressure vessels and utilities equipment packages and would be a distinct benefit
When required, supervising piping engineering work that may be executed in other UK offices or Mumbai, India.
When required, supervision of a small team of subordinate Project mechanical Engineers, downloading, where necessary and appropriate, project and corporate information, directives and initiatives.
Preparing accurate and reliable progress reports and manhour estimates.
Prioritising effort to meet tight project deadlines
Be decisive and lead by example


Specific Accountabilities to include some or all of:
Efficiently executing mechanical Engineering work as directed by the Project Lead Mechanical Engineer or Chief Engineer
Understanding the Codes and Standards applicable to the work carried out and raise deviations where necessary
Maintaining own work progress (budget, schedule)
Identification of contractual scope changes and thereafter assisting with the preparation of accurate Mechanical Engineering manhour estimates and plans to execute the additional work.
Monitoring the execution of the Project Mechanical procurement activities within his control to ensure they meet the project programme and delivery deadlines.
Managing and monitoring Vendor Documentation and liaising with Vendors.
Allocation of work to any Project Mechanical Engineers within his control.
Ensuring that the applicable company systems are used, that the relevant QA procedures and standards are followed and that the piping and layout design within his area of responsibility conforms to contract specific requirements and any applicable Client, company, national and international standards, design codes and legislation and raise deviations where necessary.
Completing work within the estimated manhour budget and in a timely manner to ensure that project deadlines are met, maintaining own work progress (budget and schedule) and identifying scope change where necessary.
Working accurately and always within the provisions and guidelines of the Company Quality Assurance system or that relevant to the Project.
Safety – responsible for personal safety safe working practices for the Project. Understand and follow OH&S procedures.


Thorough knowledge of applicable theories, practices, and accepted procedure’s in Mechanical process equipment.

Self-motivated, thorough, well organized, methodical and commercially astute.

Proven track record in engineering design.

Proven decision making and problem solving abilities

Proven record of client satisfaction

Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Degree (preferred), HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Chartered or Incorporated Engineer

Significant experience in Petrochemical and Oil & Gas FEED and EPC Design Projects in a similar role with similar international Design Contractors.

Significant experience of relevant mechanical codes and standards.

Good understanding and working knowledge of the relevant national and international standards, design codes and legislation applicable to process plant.
