The Role:
MAIN ACTIVITIES:
• As proponent engineer prepare scopes of work and economic justification for modifications ensuring they are correctly engineered, documented and reported and that all maintenance activities / modifications are implemented in accordance with statutory / Company standards and modifications are correctly closed-out.
• Produce work packs to give direction to site personnel at all levels (technician to senior management) for implementation of modifications or technical solutions to plant and machinery. Accountable for the close out and update of all associated documentation and planned maintenance.
• Provide specialist technical / engineering advice and guidance to site / offshore personnel on the operation and problem solving of plant / equipment ensuring highest safety standards, a timely response to queries and minimal disruption to operations
• Contribute to the development of strategies for the improvement of existing systems and to ensure aging assets comply with current legislation / company standards, verification and compliance requirements
• Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe and effective manner and that all interventions are controlled by authorised persons, satisfy statutory and Company standards and that no hazardous incidents or events occur
• Undertake in-depth, analyses / studies of technical problems in order to identify viable technical longer-term solutions and / or options in compliance with company and legislative standards and make recommendations to line / site management for approval.
• Investigate more complex problems by leading / participating in multi-discipline teams / projects in conjunction with other operations personnel / engineering team / engineering design contractor
• Technically responsible for review and final approval of estimates, work scopes and modification documentation provided by the engineering design contractor.
• Research available technologies, carry out technical and commercial evaluation and following required approval instigate purchase of required equipment.
• Provide input to the budget preparation process relating to all mechanical engineering improvements
• Responsible for managing specific budget lines, monitoring costs and ensuring that expenditures remain within budget
• Produce budgets and plans for specific studies or modifications and manage the cost control process and ensure closure expenditure is within acceptable % of original budget

• Ensure that engineering activities / studies / stream cases are appropriately prioritised within the budget and the Stream database kept up to date with activities and progress.
• Participate in / contribute to safety studies / HAZOPS / HAZIDS /SIL reviews / kick off meetings etc.
• Encourage the reporting of all incidents, ensure that incidents are investigated and action incident close-outs as appropriate
• Conduct ad-hoc technical surveys or audits on site / offshore and at vendor / repair locations, providing detailed technical reports identifying problems and solutions and ensuring optimum performance from contractors
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with site personnel through effective communication and by making regular visits to offshore installations and St Fergus terminal
• Develop positive and constructive relationships with contractors and suppliers. Identify opportunities to improve contractor / supplier performance, reduce costs and improve the quality of services/products supplied
• Provides guidance and support to less experienced engineers within Company as required. Where opportunity presents, mentors / provides professional development of a less experienced engineer with the goal of becoming a chartered engineer
• Participate and help to maintain Institute accreditation of the company

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Suitable engineering qualification (Engineering Degree preferred) with appropriate engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, including offshore / site experience
Knowledge of legislation / regulations / Group standards relevant to discipline
Significant knowledge of offshore / terminal plant / equipment and maintenance systems with an understanding of process / instruments considerations
Chartered Engineer
Recognised level of Company expertise in technical discipline
Valid offshore certification
