The Company:
The Senior Offshore Engineer will work within the Engineering Department, developing the design of future generations of the Oyster wave power technology to achieve cost and quality targets. He/she will have responsibility for the design of sub-systems, and knowledge and experience of the technologies required to manufacture, install, operate and maintain in a cost effective manner and reliable manner.

The Role:
Our client, a leading offshore power technology company, are looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Engineer with offshore experience for their team working out of Edinburgh. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of engineering, planning and implementation of the offshore operations, including both the construction of offshore technology subsea infrastructure and operation of the devices. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Offshore Engineer will have overall responsibility for the construction, installation, operation and maintenance of the energy devices.

Key Responsibilities:
* Manage a complex delivery schedule and budget, and accountable for managing a range of sub-contractors working on scopes of work you are accountable for
* Develop concept through to detailed design solutions, ensuring design is fit for purpose and cost effective, creating solutions that maximise availability and increase product design life, reduce the cost of power and simplify manufacturability, assembly and installation
* Follow a quality led design process while being flexible in response to rapidly evolving technology
* Embrace the safety ethos in design and working practices, and within consultants, suppliers and sub-contractors, with particular emphasis on a diver less installation and maintenance philosophy.
* Identify interface issues with other relevant work packages and take responsibility for communication and implementation of interface solutions
* Identify engineering solutions which maximise the concepts of standardisation which can be applied in mass manufacture and a subsea environment.
* Liaise with offshore team across all aspects of operational activity, including planning and risk assessment of offshore operations and associated engineering, managing associated sub-contractors and all suppliers
* Work with colleagues and where relevant external partners to generate accurate strength, fatigue, wear and corrosion calculations for all aspects of subsea engineering and installation design
* Manage the testing of components and sub-systems, including creating specifications for component procurement and sub-system detailed design
* Assess and apply operational data and knowledge to improve functionality and performance of future designs
* Dynamic analysis of operational data and knowledge to improve functionality and performance of future designs
* Management and mentoring of junior engineers to support achievement of Chartership and personal development.
* Application of Project Management (Prince 2) methodology to all work packages

Key Skills/Attributes:
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Offshore/Marine Engineering or a related subject
* Chartered, or near completion of Chartered status, with IMechE or similar body
* Significant hands-on, commercial experience of offshore engineering and operations within the renewable, oil & gas or similar, heavy engineering industries
* Experience of managing the life-cycle process from designing, manufacturing, installing, commissioning and operating marine systems
* Experience of fabrication and installation of heavily engineered structures, ideally within the marine environment
* Knowledge of industry best practice for construction/installation operations
* IT skills: Matlab, CFD, Orcaflex, 3D CAD, Solidworks
* Experience in the mechanical design and installation of subsea structures and tie in assemblies
* Experience of designing and commissioning rotating equipment including onshore drive trains (desirable)
* Experience of hydraulic power transmission equipment (desirable)
