Our client is a leading engineering solutions provider for blue-chip companies in the UK.

The Role:
The primary purpose of the Senior Planning Engineer is to produce, maintain and operate the Project Plan in order to provide schedule control and proactively drive successful Project outcomes.

The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for the obtaining and co-ordinating of all information and data needed to ensure that project and product plans are accurate, thorough and maintained.

The Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for identifying issues and mitigation options which, if not addressed, may impact the successful execution of the Project delivery objectives.

Lead and promote schedule control methodologies within the assigned project(s); ensure compliance with project specific requirements and business procedure.

Establish and agree the schedule structure (WBS) to ensure the schedule provides a common framework against which deliverables, progress and achievement can be communicated and understood by all relevant stakeholders.

The Senior Planning Engineer will produce, manage and govern both the Contractual and Performance Measurement Baselines. Ensure the baseline schedule aligns to the delivery strategies of all contributing elements and is understood and agreed by the individual operating areas

Principal contact for all project specific planning issues, responsible for managing and integrating the master delivery schedule.

Ensure all key activities, milestones, logic and interfaces associated with each primary deliverable are clearly identified and coordinated such that potential problem areas or opportunities are quickly identified and appropriate action reviewed and implemented.

Ensure all key events including Employer, Contractor, Sub-Contractor and Supplier milestones are highlighted and where appropriate, detailed supplier & sub-contractor schedules will be integrated into the master programme to ensure they are achievable and managed against the wider context of the project plan.

The schedule will be fully resourced and based upon acceptable norms; the schedule will be budget loaded and aligned with the basis of estimate.

Responsible for obtaining and co-ordinating all information and data needed to ensure that project and work package plans are an accurate reflection of current progress and anticipated delivery strategies.


Attend & lead planning / project review meetings as necessary, ensuring past performance and anticipated outcomes are clearly identified and reported.

The Senior Planning Engineer role will assist in the production & maintenance of detailed Project Reports in line with project and business requirements in a timely & professional manner. Provide the project manager with support to ensure informed and accurate presentation of schedule performance information both internally and externally.

Provide leadership and guidance for the provision and analysis of Earned Value Management metrics.

Oversee & mentor other members of the Project Controls team (including Change Risk & Cost Management).

The Senior Planning Engineer will provide support to the Project Change & Risk Management processes; ensure impact analysis of risk and change is fully identified in terms of schedule and cost implications. Recognise & forecast areas of potential risk, change, and schedule creep; challenge, opportunities or loss of planned productivity and assist with suitable mitigation measures & communicate these requirements to the project team.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Engineering or Business based degree or diploma; relevant experience would be considered in lieu of qualification.

Require minimum 10 yrs planning experience within Waste, Process or Chemical sector.

A comprehensive understanding of Primavera is essential.

Proven experience within an EPC Environment

The Senior Planner will be required to maintain the detailed schedule and pro-actively contribute to schedule performance analysis for the Greater Manchester Waste project

Knowledge of EPC Contracts (particularly NEC)

Minimum 10 years Planning experience within an EPC environment.

Working in Cross-functional, multi-located teams

Management of a planning personnel.

Excellent knowledge of Earned Value Management Techniques

Self motivated, proactive, innovative without direct authority

Strong Microsoft Office skill, particularly MS Excel
