The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operating company, requires expertise for their ongoing oil sands mega-projects in Alberta.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
The Senior Process Engineer ensures that the project's requirements for all process engineering, as detailed in the Early Project Development Basis, Facilities Design Basis and Project Design Basis, are carried out faithfully, and in a timely fashion. Provides technical leadership and advises other Process Engineers on the Owner’s Project Team (PT), as necessary. Stewards process engineering aspects of the Project with other PT discipline leads. Stewards the interfaces between the PT and the Contractor's organization with respect to process engineering to ensure quality and appropriate management of change.

Key interfaces include the Owner’s PT, Engineering Contractor’s organization, Operations, Company Design Discipline team, and other technical teams (such as research and development, third-party consultants, etc.). Technical guidance will be provided from the Project Supervisor and Company Functional Support organization, as needed.

Responsibilities and duties:
• Provide overall process engineering technical leadership and expertise, with primary focus on the froth treatment and tank farm scope
• Stewards the Contractor's activities with respect to process engineering including:
 Process engineering required to develop the Project Design Basis/other Gate 3 deliverables
 Development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
 Development of the schedule, recommended deliverables, and labor hour estimate for process engineering
 Measurement and reporting of process engineering progress
 Selection, specification, and inspection of process and process control components
 Procurement of process related tagged items including preparation of specifications, bid evaluations, bid tabulations, bid recommendations, etc.
• Review, evaluate, and advise:
 Process simulations, optimization, and feasibility studies
 Process specifications, P&IDs, and PFDs
 Compliance with design methods and safety factors to be used in design of project. Reviews completed Project Design Basis for correctness, compliance, and operability
 Operability of the unit or plant for start up, normal, turndown, and shutdown modes. Reviews or sets design basis for abnormal operating conditions
 Process pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up planning activities
• Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) reviews

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Thorough and extensive knowledge of:
 Process engineering principles, theories, and concepts
 Applicable codes, standards, and trade practices
• Thorough knowledge and expert judgment in the selection and application of process and process control hardware and software
• Broad understanding of Safety aspects in design (API 14C regulations, relief and blowdown, passive and active fire protection, etc.)
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (preferably Chemical Engineering)
• 15+ years of closely related professional engineering experience, 5+ years of which should be at the Senior Process Engineer level
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Strong background, including operations, in oil and gas production facilities.
• Strong communication, coordination, technical and problem solving skills
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities, while acting within a team environment.
