The Role:
The Senior Production Geophysicist is an experienced professional with broad technical skills who provides sound expertise for the development and production of deepwater assets in a variety of geologic environments including extensional, contractional and sub-salt. This individual is capable of high quality independent and creative work in a fully integrated team environment driven by solid business practices. They can complete complex assignments with minimal day-to-day direction while communicating progress and results to supervisor and peers. The Senior Production Geophysicist should have strong interpersonal skills and be able to provide leadership as needed on assignments requiring a comprehensive knowledge of geology and geophysics. This individual will be responsible for effectively interfacing with partners and internal technical support groups; and they will monitor industry advances to recommend and incorporate new methods and technologies. Responsibilities might include technical mentoring of more junior technical staff. Good technical writing and documentation skills are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Works closely with production geologists, reservoir modelers, reservoir engineers, drilling teams and other subsurface and technical support groups as part of a highly integrated Reservoir Management Team that oversees producing assets and optimizes hydrocarbon recovery. Helps identify reservoir opportunities and design work programs for efficient and profitable recovery projects. Effectively interfaces with drilling and operations team members to define potential shallow hazards and other drilling risks.

Identifies and quantifies reservoir heterogeneity such as baffles, barriers and compartments. Able to recognize and interpret secondary transport features on seismic and well log data and integrate them into depositional model concepts based on their seismic character. Uses seismic attribute analyses to improve reservoir interpretations and should be experienced in pre-stack seismic data analysis, fluid replacement modeling, AVA and seismic inversion interpretation. Has the skills to generate detailed velocity models and make precise seismic depth conversions are required.

Understands how different recovery processes affect reservoir properties and how the reservoir’s seismic response changes over time. Very experienced in interpreting 4D data to build detailed geologic models for reservoir simulation; and is able to quantify structural and stratigraphic uncertainty by integrating well log, petrophysical, biostratigraphic seismic and engineering data acquired from discovery through subsequent development and production.


Generates accurate probabilistic and deterministic reserve estimations in complex reservoir systems. Determines the gross rock volume distribution within a reservoir and evaluates and quantifies original hydrocarbons in-place and the remaining distribution of hydrocarbons. Capable of assessing the likelihood that a seemingly prospective area within the reservoir might have been previously drained by adjoining wells.

Participates in internal and external peer reviews and presents evaluations and ideas to risk and resource estimation reviewers. Incorporates recommendations from these reviews into updated evaluations and seeks input from peers to ensure the final product is of a high technical quality that is properly quantified and documented.

Works with the Development Team to help transition assets from Development to Production.

Initiates and directs major geophysical studies and the reprocessing of seismic data. Should have a good understanding of seismic data acquisition and processing in deep water and sub-salt settings (knowledge of depth-imaging is desirable). Evaluates new geophysical techniques and software products and makes recommendations on emerging technologies.

Engages partners to ensure technical alignment, helps plan partner technical meetings, and works with Land Department to facilitate partner communication.

Assists in evaluation of field acquisition proposals, which often includes data room visitation, and making recommendations to management on participation

Mentors and provides technical assistance to junior staff and helps design appropriate training projects for new hires and summer interns.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

There are no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, he/she may act as leader of small groups of technical personnel and provide technical guidance to lower-level geophysicists.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Geology or Geophysics, or a Bachelor degree with experience commensurate to a Master’s degree, is required;
•Minimum of 10 years professional oil and gas development and producing experience working with or in a business unit cross-functional team or technology group;
•Deepwater and sub-salt experience is preferred, with strong preference for Gulf of Mexico expertise. Similar deepwater experience in other Frontier Basins would be considered;
•Experience with Unix/Linux based seismic interpretation, analysis and modeling software, such as Seisworks, DecisionSpace, Geoquest, Geoprobe, Fusion, Petrel, Hampson&Russell and StratMagic;
•Knowledge of stochastic modeling techniques to quantify subsurface uncertainty would be a plus;
•Familiarity with depth-imaging technology a plus;
•Must be able to work in highly charged, fast-paced work environment, and be able to handle multiple projects at once.
