The Company:
Our client, a major owner/operator company, requires expertise for their oil sands mega-projects in Alberta.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
Position reports to: Engineering Manager - Basic Engineering - Froth Treatment

Role:

• Candidate will be responsible for managing and delivery of activities assigned to individual in support of Froth Treatment Silo Activities and Objectives.
• Candidate will be required to communicate and work with EPC contractor, Owner Silo teams, and other Owner departments who are stakeholders on the project.
• Project is currently in a Basic Engineering phase. Is expected that this position will transfer into the Detailed Engineering Construction and Subsequent start-up phases. Phases will be executed primarily at EPC offices and site.
• Job holder will also provide support in the preparation and further evaluation of the EPC technical tender packages.

Responsibilities:

• Support the preparation of the ITT technical contract packages, in line with the approved contracting strategy, with assistance from Project Controls, Legal and Engineering.
• Participate in the technical bid analysis and evaluation of the ITT tender packages for the Froth Treatment Plant.
• Support Project Manager and Engineering Manager on the preparation of the Project Execution Plans.
• Support Engineering Manager on evaluation and analysis of schedule, cost and quality requirements in all phases.
• Coordination of Documents technical reviews during all engineering phases, including Evaluation of applicability of comments produced by discipline engineers.
• Control of time required to complete documents review process. If deviations occur, propose remedial actions.
• Support Engineering Managers to identify interfaces between disciplines and areas and take actions to avoid conflicts during execution of all phases of the project.
• Ensures deliverables from Engineering Contractors required to complete Basic Engineering, Detailed Design and Procurement are produced as planned in their area of responsibility.
• Manages Risk within the Scope of Work.
• Coordinate Construction technical support and assure construction work is in compliance with technical documents, Pre-commissioning and commissioning sequence and Project Execution Plan.
• Provide written weekly report of Froth Treatment activities documenting achievements, key issues, two week look ahead, actions, status etc.;
• Provide leadership and co-ordination to ensure that all required data and information necessary for the execution of the work (Basic Engineering Update, Detailed Design and Construction support) are made available to the Project Team and the Engineering
and Construction Contractors;
• Analyze actual performance against plan and make adjustments consistent with plan objectives by running weekly status meetings and following up on action item lists;
• Analyze risk and opportunities and instigate avoidance and mitigation activities;
• Provide technical assistance to the regulatory group as required supporting Froth Treatment silo activities.

Accountabilities:

• Timely technical support to produce the Basic Engineering Design Dossiers;
• Ensure technical document reviews follow project cycle time;
• Timely resolution of technical matters within and interface issues between silos;
• Timely and accurate reports;
• Time, schedule and cost associated with any small studies lead by individual;
• Time, schedule and cost of Basic Engineering Update, Detailed Design and Procurement deliverables under his area of responsibility.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• 10+ years experience in the oil and gas industry
• Experience in managing projects in the Alberta Oilsands context
• Member of or eligible for registration with APEGA
• Motivated and self starter
• Good team player
• Well developed organization as well as good verbal and written communication skills
• PMP designation considered an asset
