The Company:
Our client, a diverse Canadian Energy Company, plans new developments estimated at $12+ Billion over the next 5 years.

This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only. Residents of Newfoundland & Labrador will be given first consideration for this position.

The Role:
Currently looking for Senior Protection & Controls Engineer receives functional direction from, and reports to, an Area Manager within the HVdc Specialties team. You will provide protection & controls engineering support to the Team in order to facilitate effective project delivery. Will report directly and be accountable to an Area Manager. May also be involved in all work scopes within the HVdc Specialties team and therefore could also periodically receive direction from other Area Managers, in particular Synchronous Condensers, HVdc Converters & Transition Compounds, ac Switchyards, and System Integration & Telecommunications.

As a Senior Protection & Controls Engineer your main duties will involve:
•Provide protection & controls engineering leadership to complete / interpret the scope of work
•Complete detailed technical reviews of Contractor submittals and technical data (including, but not limited to, drawings, specifications, design studies, technical reports, etc.) to verify conformity with the Scope of Work, project design criteria, Nalcor standards, codes, practices, operating philosophy, good utility practice and constructability
•Lead / participate in design review and constructability review workshops
•Work with Contractor(s) to ensure the installed facilities meet all design, safety, quality, schedule, construction and regulatory requirements meet Project Goals for Safety, Operability, Reliability and Environmental Performance
•Review plans for and/or participate in shop surveillance and factory acceptance tests (FATs)
•Explore, analyze, and introduce new design concepts, solutions, and innovative methods for achieving the Project's strategic objectives, relying on basic theory, first principles, and original ideas.
•Facilitate problem resolution and assume responsibility for closure.
•Lead in owner's acceptance during commissioning and turnover stages
•Visit Site(s) as often as is necessary to monitor compliance with the specifications, prepare independent site visit reports and inform functional groups of deviations (Quality, Completions, LCP construction management)
•Provide technical leadership in the resolution of post commissioning start-up issues

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
As a Senior Protection & Controls Engineer you will have experience:
•Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
•Minimum 8-10 years of experience, in technical as well as construction roles.
•Background in protection & controls engineering and design.
•Electric utility experience, particularly in the area of high voltage substations, is a definite asset.
• Familiarity with codes and standards applicable with the discipline such as IEEE, IEC, CSA, etc.
• Worksite will be Lower Churchill Project Office, St. John's, NL (primary) and potentially construction Sites, including Soldiers Pond, Muskrat Falls, Churchill Falls, Forteau and Shoal Cove.
