The Role:

The Environmental Control Research team undertakes the fundamental design and qualification of new technologies for application in future product ranges. Our role in the product development cycle spans from initiation of the concept to delivery of a mature technical solution ready for design completion by New Product Development teams.

• Senior Researchers could be expected to initiate new concepts and ideas and identify market opportunities from a blank sheet of paper.
• Take responsibility for creating and owning vision specification for new technology concepts, including schedule and resource planning.
• Within teams, take a proactive approach in the generation of ideas – host brainstorms, gather research (theoretical and practical), select and present ideas and concepts to senior management.
• Champion great technology to produce products that meet all performance and functional criteria.
• Work seamlessly with cross functional specialists both internal and external, to deliver technologies that achieve the vision.
• Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly.
• Be responsible for the approach, quality and accuracy of the team’s work.
• Use established company development processes, good engineering practice and discipline to deliver robust technical solutions in agreed timeframes.
• Challenge and develop existing engineering practices to continuously improve product quality.
• Clear presentation of technical information and supporting documentation to ensure accurate hand over to the development team within the UK.
• Prepare for (and participate in when required) technical reviews with Senior Managers, Executives as required.
• Day to day operational management for allocated Research Engineers/Graduate Research Engineers including performance management, people development and all other line manager responsibilities.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Physics or equivalent
* A fundamental understanding of thermodynamics and the principles of heat and mass transfer
* Working knowledge of either applied thermodynamics or electromechanical technology development
* A creative, considered and methodical approach to problem solving, adhering to clear development processes.
* Experience in one or more of the following industries would also be desirable: Consumer product (FMCG or durable), aero or automotive, power, oil & gas, military, water treatment or commercial device R&D.
