The Company:
Our Client, a major international owner/operating company, seeks expertise for their Oil Sands mega-projects in Alberta.

This opportunity is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only.

The Role:
The Heavy Oil Technology Centre is conducting R&D and technical services for heavy oil, mainly focusing on the oil sands. Within the Company R&D Heavy Oil project, we are building up a portfolio of recovery methods activities.
We are recruiting a Senior Researcher EOR Technology who will be responsible for the relevant R&D activities carried out in Calgary and will report to the Project Manager for Recovery Methods in Global Projects.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Reports to the Department Leader for Recovery Methods
• Perform R&D work in Calgary
• Work in close collaboration with the R&D organization in Company's head office as well as the Canadian assets.
• Be the local responsible for the relevant R&D activities and facilitate interaction such that R&D performed in Calgary and Global finds its way to pilots in the assets
• Conduct simulation studies on thermal heavy oil recovery methods
• Lead and coordinate work performed by vendors, industry ventures and research organisations

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• The successful candidate will have or is qualified to register in a P.Eng. designation
• Degree within reservoir engineering / chemical engineering
• Previous experience from R&D projects preferred (modelling experience required, experimental experience is appreciated)
• 5-10 years of business experience, preferably including SAGD/thermal recovery of Heavy Oil or Oil Sands
• This position is opened to Company Expat employees but with a high preference for local employees
• A solid knowledge of thermal recovery is required
• Knowledge of solvent-related processes is an asset
• Experience with thermal simulation is necessary (STARS, Eclipse)
• Prior proven supervisory experience and/or training is an asset

• Independent work ethic and at the same time, ability to be a strong team player
• Display ability to initiate, plan and carry out work in different R&D tasks
• The candidate must exhibit a pragmatic approach and strong subsurface technical skills
• Taste for in-depth studies is strongly appreciated
• Excellent written and oral command of English
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Occasional business trips to Europe should be expected
