The Company:
Our Client appears in the FTSE 100 index and is an international energy services company specializing in Oil and Gas and has annual revenues of over £2.6 billion. They believe that it is the people that drive their success, from Project Managers, Project Engineers, consultants to designers and commercial personnel. They work globally employing over 20,000 people on major operations including the UK.

The Role:
o Responsible for ensuring that the principles of Inherent Safety and Risk Based Design are fully incorporated in the project.
o Assist the Lead/Principal Discipline Engineer when requested in the execution of their responsibilities and duties.

Supervisory and Managerial Duties:
o Supervision of assigned discipline personnel (i.e. Graduate engineers).
o Give technical direction and guidance to design personnel.

Main Duties:
o Supervision of Technical Safety engineering staff under their control, & responsibility for the technical quality of work produced by them.
o Be conversant and knowledgeable with respect to current and new legislation and standards e.g., BS, API and Client codes and standards, DCR, PFEER, SCR and HS&E Regulations and EU Directives.
o Be aware and understand the business drivers within the Client organisation and how these can be influenced by innovated designs and minimum cost solutions.
o Production of cost effective designs that are fit for purpose and safe.
o Compliance with company engineering procedures and industry, international and Client Codes and standards.
o Responsible for assessing and identifying deviations to standards, that will benefit company & Client, and gaining acceptance of Client Technical Authorities.
o Responsible for input to project plans and schedules, achievement of agreed schedule, during the course of any project or study or early identification of project areas of concern with necessary corrective action identified.
o Progress of the works under their control and the achievement of targets. Responsible for reporting progress as per company systems and procedures.
o Identification of increase or reduction in scope, raising the necessary support documents for Project Control Purposes.
o Review work/work output of discipline assigned staff as required.
o Participate as necessary in discussions with Client and visit jobsites when necessary.
o Responsible to ensuring that Client Technical Safety Specifications and/or Standards are fully adhered to, and adopted in the design if applicable.
o Responsible for identifying all project technical safety risks and ensuring they are reduced to a level that is as low as is reasonably practicable (ALARP).
o Responsible for all aspects of Fire & Gas system detector layout, number of and location of safety alarms, manually activated call points, ESD stations etc. As well as the compilation/reviewing of all Hazardous Area Schedules and Plans.
o Responsible for identifying the need for, and specification of Passive Fire Protection.
o Responsible for all communication / liaison with the clients and Independent Verifications Bodies (IVB) regarding Technical Safety Concerns.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
o Minimum BSc/ BEng in Engineering discipline.
o Preferably Post Graduate Safety related qualification.
o Preferably chartered (CEng or equivalent) and member of relevant professional institution.
o Capable of reading and interpreting P&IDs and C&E's.
o Experienced in consequence modelling.
o Experienced in the assessment of Major Accident Hazards.
o Familiar with typical QRA techniques.
o Computer fluency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
o Awareness of SIL assessment techniques (Risk Graph & LOPA Methods).
o Awareness of PHSSER reviews.
o Experienced in managing conceptual and feasibility studies including use of technical-economic analysis to select optimum safety schemes.
o Familiar with reliability assessment techniques/software packages (i.e. Fault Tree +).
o Skilled working in safety design projects.
o Preferably gained in the UK or Norwegian offshore oil & gas industries.
