The Company:
A major oil and gas Operating Company in the State of Qatar.

The Role:
To provide technical and specialist advice within the Well Delivery Team on all aspects related to drilling/completion fluids and cement. To act as Contract Holder and technical focal point for Cementing and Drilling Fluid Engineering and Service contracts.
To evaluate and (if applicable) implement new developments in Well fluids and cementing technology and to advise on minimizing the environmental impact of the well fluids used.


• Ensures full compliance with the venture HSSE policies and procedures as detailed in the HSSE Management System, HSSE Standards and all other appropriate documentation.
• Sets a clear leadership example and promotes a high degree of health, safety and environmental awareness.
• Reviews and monitors effectiveness of company policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
• Reviews effectiveness of contractor HSSE management by line inspection.
• Initiates and develops new HSSE initiatives aimed at improving HSSE performance.
• Co-ordinate technical HSSE audits, reviews as required for contracts under management.
• Verifies the application of the Permit to Work system through audit and inspection.
• Leads incident investigations involving contractors and champions near miss reporting and hazard awareness training.
• Ensures regular contractor HSSE meetings are held and actively participates in Well Engineering HSSE meetings.


• Provide/Assist specialist technical input to Drilling Operations on the selection of drilling fluids to ensure safe and efficient drilling performance in an economic and environmentally acceptable manner.
• Provide specialist technical input and QA/QC on cement slurry formulations tailored to well conditions.
• Provide specialist technical input to Drilling Operations and Development on the design and maintenance of completion procedures to ensure minimum impairment and high-quality wells.
• Read daily drilling reports and attend daily rig calls, advising as required. Provide troubleshooting and problem solving advice during drilling difficulties (stuck pipe, lost circulation, borehole instability etc).
• Evaluate and recommend on implementation of new developments (techniques, chemicals, products) in drilling/completion fluids and cements. Maintain close contacts with SIEP teams and service companies on these new developments and in the implementation stage ensure timely procurement of new materials needed.• Monitor and manage data on costs and technical performance of drilling, cementing and completion fluids and techniques. Report findings, learning points and document successes/failures in technical reports.
• Collect and Present data on environmental discharges from Drilling Operations for HSSE reporting.


• Timely ordering of casing accessories in order to ensure equipment is available when required.
• Ensure contract expenditure is monitored along with other KPI’s including the ACV.
• Identify the need for contract variations for equipment, materials and services not covered under the contract.
• Initiates variations and ensures variations are in place as required.
• Check for correctness on invoices before authorization for payments.
• Hold regular meetings with contractor representatives.
• Manages operational and HSSE performance of contractor, performs reviews, audits and monitors follow up of recommendations.
• Occasional offshore visits and site visits to contractor workshops and/or offices may be required.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Graduate Engineer, degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Petroleum Engineering experience with considerable exposure to drilling fluids, cement and completion fluids.
• Thorough understanding of all chemical/physical aspects of fluids is required
• Innovative, with the ability to challenge conventional methods and capacity to drive through new initiatives
• Strong analytical and commercial skills – able to identify opportunities and set priorities to achieve business results.
• Sound knowledge of the geology/rock mechanics in the areas where wells are to be drilled..
• Good English language skills (reading, writing, speech) are required
• Valid OPITO-approved T-BOSIET and H2S certifications are required for offshore travel.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Previous North Field Qatar experience would be favourable.
