The Role:
To design and engineer wells in compliance with our clients standards, meeting required objectives.
To drive innovation and change in well design, to optimize business opportunity for our client well.
Provide clear communication of the risks and requirements of new well designs to the operations well engineers.
To build the capability of our client to provide new well designs and deliver projects in an integrated manner.
Ensure our clients design standards and processes are maintained, kept up to date and applied.
Provide front end support to business planning, drilling sequence and material scheduling.

Accountabilities

To ensure that our clients HSE activities are fully supported by Well Engineering.
To ensure that Well Engineering front end work is properly planned. Including Concept Selection and Detailed Design work.
To ensure that Well Engineering design of wells adheres to the appropriate standards.
To provide structured risk analysis well designs
To maximize the use of support from regional and global resources to improve on well delivery.
To ensure our clients well designs provide continued performance improvement
Develop competency of national staff and work with R1/R2 co-ordinator within SENV to accelerate national staff development.
Responsible for the integrated planning of wells projects, working together with Exploration and Petroleum Engineering and Projects Departments
Responsible for Time and Cost estimation
Responsible for OCTG and long lead items ordering
Responsible for the integration of appropriate New Technologies.
Ensure the effective use of the Well Delivery Process within Bapetco
Maintain and manage Well Engineering standards and processes, ensuring compliance against these. Includes management of IT design software.
Provide input into Business Planning requirements and manage medium and long term drilling sequence.
Focal point for cost forecasting and liaison between Finance and Well Engineering for monthly budget meetings.
Participate in tender evaluations and negotiating committees.
Carry out role of contract focal point for certain service contracts

Dimensions

The client is currently facing the challenges of increasing activity levels. The complexity of well design is also increasing. Historically, our client delivered relatively simple oil and gas wells in the Western Desert. The current focus areas are moving towards more unconventional exploration and development projects. Light Tight Oil, Tight Gas, Horizontal drilling in Carbonate Reservoirs and higher temperature and pressures are providing a growing need for more sophisticated well design.
The use of a Concept Design Team was introduced to our client in Q3 2011. This team is currently developing ability to meet these new challenges and the advertised role is expected to help build the capability of the Concept Design Team.

The Concept Design Team currently consists of the Team Leader and two SENV Drilling Engineers. It is expected that Bapetco National Staff will also be trained up during the development of the Concept Design Team to further enhance this group.

Anticipated volume is design support for around 50 wells per year.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
A professional engineer in possession of a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering or science discipline. A minimum of 10 years experience in Well Engineering, Good supervisory skills, with sound knowledge of well control and well design practices. Good analytical, communication and writing skills, with PC fluency and full familiarity with drilling engineering software.
Proficient in English language, both in speech and in writing.
In possession of the Round 1, Round 2 and valid IWCF certificates.
The incumbent will have exposure to a wide range of drilling, completion and workover activities, which will enhance their professional skills portfolio. They will also face the challenge of managing relationships with national staff where agendas of stakeholders may clash.
