The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

The Role:
To support the client in meeting SL’s requirements and expectations in respect of safety performance and compliance with applicable H&S legislation, SEIs and SL’s Contractor Safety Standards.

The SHE Manager (Sellafield Operations) will report to Head of Assurance but will liaise with the Head of Sellafield Operations and her team on a day-to-day basis. Will maintain key working relationships with Operations Team members, as required and with members of the client’s organisation including Superintending Officers and members of the MOCOCL Department. Will liaise with the Northern Division SHE Manager and the Head of Assurance as required. No direct reports.

The main job functions are:
• Assist the Head of Sellafield Operations in maintaining and improving SHE performance.
• Provide SHE support to all works planned and carried out by the Operations Team.
• Provide SHE advice to the Operations Team to assist with delivery of SHE aspects of their work and maintain a positive safety culture within the team.
• Keep up to date with SHE within Sellafield Ltd and ensure that any relevant information is appropriately disseminated. Ensure that the client presents a positive image in SHE-related dealings with Sellafield Ltd including with the MOCOCL Department.

Dimensions and limits of authority
No immediate financial responsibilities. Has the implicit authority to immediately halt any operations which are thought to present clear and imminent danger. Failure to fulfil the role adequately could potentially result in harm to personnel, loss of company reputation, loss of future work, receipt of HSE improvement/prohibition notices, fines and even imprisonment of senior managers. In the event of a major SHE incident it is possible that an element of responsibility would rest with the post holder – this would depend on the terms of any relevant appointment and the degree to which I had fulfilled it. The direction of the work is, for the most part, organised, developed and delivered by the post holder in agreement with the senior members of the Operations Team.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
5 to 10 years experience of work on a nuclear licensed site including at least 3 years of occupational SHE experience.
•Decommissioning and Separation experience
•Previous SL experience
•P4 pass holder
•SC desirable, though not essential

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
NEBOSH Diploma in Health & Safety Management (or equivalent)
Graduate or Chartered member of IOSH
Must also be SQEP to work as a SHE Practitioner at Sellafield including possession of Professionally Qualified Person’s card issued by a recognised competency scheme (eg CSCS card), participation in a Continued Professional Development Scheme and completion of the Managing Safely (Sellafield Construction) course.
