The Role:
The Ship Design & Construction Project Manager is accountable for developing, leading and delivering ship construction, ship repair, ship life extension, or ship conversion projects. He delivers multi-discipline projects to designated performance, cost and schedule requirements; delivers fit-for-purpose, timely and cost-effective services to asset and project teams and provides wide-ranging expert project delivery advice and consultancy. He is accountable for the overall project, and is responsible for organizating, planning, resourcing, executing, and delivering project peer assists, functional reviews and reporting on the status of the project. He also provides critical technical and project management support for the business development phase of the VAF process for ship design and construction.

The Project Manager (Ship Design and Construction) is the focal point of contact to whom all questions about the project will be directed. He ensures that the work is carried out in accordance with our clients requirements and he/she approves and delivers changes at the project level. He leads a multi-disciplinary technical team dedicated for tendering, design and construction of ships.

- The Project Manager (Ship Design and Construction) is accountable for the outcome of the project, and is responsible for organizing, planning, resourcing, executing and reporting on the status of the project.
- Works with internal stakeholders who interface with the project e.g. other functions in the asset, regional management etc and supports the business development team.
- Manages external relationships which are important for project delivery e.g. develops the relationships with JV partners, statutory authorities, regulators, local stakeholders, contractors, suppliers and consultants.
- Responsible for ensuring the technical and personal development of peers
- Responsible for ensuring the project team maintians industry links and is aware of best availble technology
- Monitors engineering guidelines and standards compliance on project. Ensures that engineering deliverables are prepared and checked according to company’s BoD and Standards.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of classification society (ABS, DNV, etc.), statutory, and industry standards/requirements
- Engineering degree, or equivalent, and substantial practical experience in engineering, ship design, construction, conversions or ship repair and project delivery
- Extensive marine experience working on and leading new build / conversions or refit projects on LNG ships and oil tankers
- A large part of this experience will have been with Far East shipyard
- Sound understanding of the commercial impact of project and engineering decisions on project viability.
- Competent to lead functional reviews according to VAF and BG’s functional processes for projects
