The Company:
Our client is a major international maritime construction company who has an excellent track record in delivering on major projects, as well as on going maintenance and operations.

The Role:
The main responsibility of the role is to ensure the project is delivered on time, on budget and in a safe and efficient manner.

More specifically this will include:

• Treats health, safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.
• Act as the Owner’s Representative at the shipyard.
• Establish site office, site team and site office procedures and routines.
• Ensure that the vessels are constructed in accordance with the following:
o Shipbuilding contract;
o Contract technical specification;
o Approved drawings;
o International regulations;
o Client requirements.
• Manage all supervision and inspection activities.
• Manage factory acceptance testing (FAT), including follow-up and close-out of issues.
• Attend sea trials and advise the shipyard of any aspects of the vessel’s design and construction that do not fulfil the contract, specifications and/or approved drawings.
• Ensure compliance with the Delivery Checklist when the ship is ready for delivery.
• Manage the site supervision budget. Review the site supervision budget against the actual shipyard schedule to ensure necessary resources internally and/or externally. Seek approval for the site supervision budget from the Project Manager.
• Report all variations arising throughout the project to the Project Manager and ensure that cost adjustments are authorised and approved.
• Manage the maker’s list discussions and obtain extended warranties from makers where possible.
• Manage the site team HR issues, including contract management, salary payment, performance management.
• Ensure that all site personnel are aware of their responsibilities during the vessels’ construction.
• Communicate with shipyard and subcontractors.
• Promote and proactively manage shipyard’s HSEQ performance, advise the shipyard of any concerns in a timely manner and follow up with remedial actions.
• Report all non-conformities to the shipyard officially and follow up on their closeout.
• Attend all shipyard production meetings and sign off on all resulting memoranda of meetings.
• Assist with audits.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Education and training as a chief engineer or naval architect.
• Extensive experience on site for new buildings.
• Knowledge and experience in the marine industry.
• Familiar with current technology and industry regulations.
• Leadership in managing multinational teams of employees and contractors.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organisational skills.
• Analytical, problem-solving, time management, project management and decision-making skills.
• Ability to respond positively to customers in an effective manner.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
