The Company:
Our client has over 45 years experience in the measurement and interpretation of data for safe and efficient plant and asset use across a wide range of industries. Varying from a single sensor to a complete turnkey system, each of their products and systems is the outcome of extensive research.

The Role:
• A Software Engineer is required to assist in the specification and delivery of a complex software web application development project.
• The role will form part of the multi-disciplinary project delivery team and report to the Software Development Lead.
• The main responsibilities of the role will be: to take ownership of some complex areas of the client functional requirements, which includes integration of legacy software systems; translate these requirements into concise software specification documents in order to ensure cost effective delivery; supervise the development and testing of the resulting software modules to ensure timely delivery.
• You will require an understanding of: different software development processes; API integration of legacy software; web application servers; various programming languages, frameworks and libraries.

The Software Engineer will be able to choose which of our clients sites to work at, in either Cambridge or Somerset. There may also be the option to work remotely from home for some of the week.

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Experience taking ownership over projects and writing software specifications including test plans
• A good understanding of computer hardware and network systems
• Experience integrating legacy desktop applications into MVC web applications
• Experience configuring Windows and Linux servers to run web applications

The prospective Software Engineer will need working knowledge of the following, in priority order:
• Python
• SQL database design (ideally with data warehouse experience)
• GPS systems
• Data warehouse/analytics
• Apache webserver
• Windows Hyper-V
• Django
• JavaScript
• HTML 5 (including canvas graphing libraries)
• NumPy and SciPy
• Bootstrap CSS
• jQuery
• Git version control and tag based deployment

• Degree level educational base in software engineering with demonstrable experience from previous Software Engineer roles.
• High standard of written English essential
• Aptitude for learning
