The Company:
Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.

The Role:
Software Engineer, Vehicle Efficiency Research, Model based Embedded systems We require a Software engineer to work in the Jaguar and Land Rover Vehicle Efficiency research group, working on the development of software for control of thermal and other systems that have an impact on vehicle energy efficiency. Working alongside subject matter experts, this role will have a particular focus on model based embedded software for occupant comfort, the transfer functions to occupant comfort, and the development of suitable validation methods. A primary target of the teams project work is the delivery of a range of benefits, including improved fuel economy and creating a favourable occupant thermal comfort level on entry into a vehicle in low and elevated ambient temperature conditions as well as the requirements of steady state conditions. The candidate will work within the Vehicle Efficiency Research team at Jaguar and Land Rover responsible for generating and validating algorithms and `auto-code ready models to concept readiness for adoption by a production vehicle program. The project timing will be driven by the JLR TCDS process, which has tight evidence based delivery gateways.

Skills Required:
The Candidate should ideally have either a software or electronics background. However he or she must have a thorough, broad based understanding of automotive systems and knowledge of thermodynamics would be an advantage. An understanding of human thermal comfort is desirable but not essential. A good Engineering degree is required, together with at least four years relevant postgraduate experience. The candidate should be able to communicate confidently and effectively in both written and verbal English, and must be able to demonstrate in depth, experience in the following areas:
-MATLABTM and SIMULINKTM
-Data analysis
-Vehicle and component testing
-Excellent understanding of system engineering
-Advanced model based software development
-Understanding of heat transfer (Desirable)
-Heating ventilation and air conditioning systems design (Desirable but not essential)

The Project engineer will be responsible for the provision of:
- System Software Development following a best-practice process for model based software development the key responsibility of the candidate will be to develop embedded software according to the needs of technologies developed by the wider project team Component/module/system design
- Ensuring that high level system requirements are properly captured the design of a structured system of modules and component functions should be robustly created, predicting and avoiding potential failure modes.
- System FMEA Identifying all potential failure modes, and their effects, are identified. It is expected that countermeasures will also be identified for significant failure modes.
- System creation Planning for the manufacture/creation of the system components recognising a logical divide between hardware implementation and software implementation, including spare parts if required.
- Component test Ensuring individual component systems and functions have been suitably evaluated before a system build System (bench) test Ensuring that the system is evaluated on a suitable test bench. If required, following these tests discuss opportunity to make modifications to the system, involving any supplier that may be key to this process
