The Company:
A leading Australian coal seam gas explorer and producer focused on developing its world-class reserves for domestic and international supply.

The Role:
Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) the incumbent generates maps, carries out spatial analysis, and creates/maintains Geodatabases from data collected in the field, sourced from external agencies, or by remote sensing.

This data is critical in assisting field and office staff, contractors management and joint venture partners with decision-making analysis in a range of areas, such as engineering, planning, environmental science, commerce, surveying and the exploration, development and maintenance of the coal seam gas and petroleum resources of Company’s tenures.

Accountabilities
• Deliver discrete streams of work for all areas of the business through map production and spatial data analysis using ArcGIS
• Undertake quality assurance of GIS products and outputs
• Update, create and maintain Geodatabases from field surveys
• Develop, maintain and assist the Spatial Services Delivery Lead in the development of standard GIS product templates and corporate layer files
• Provide input into the development of the Company GIS data model
• Assist Spatial Services Delivery Lead to develop, implement and review procedures/systems to ensure improved efficiency of the GIS component Company’s operations
• Mentor other Spatial Service Specialists and support them in their development needs to improve level of output
• Provide support for Company’s exploration and appraisal programs
• Provide support services for Company Management/Corporate presentations and reporting
• Provide support for Company’s GIS power users
• Be the point of contact for some external / internal interfaces including collecting data from third parties and working with contractors
• Carry out objectives and directions provided by the Spatial Services Delivery Lead

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Experience with ESRI, MapInfo or similar software packages at an advanced level
• Demonstrates knowledge & understanding of engineering principles – applies them in some complex and non-routine contexts
• Sound understanding of interacting disciplines including geology, pipelines and HSSE
• Has good working knowledge of business principles (finance, commercial, etc)
• Has sound understanding of the codes & rules of conduct of the profession and is familiar with relevant legislation, especially HSSE
• Able to apply a creative approach to problem solving and understands the application of new technology
• Takes initiative to identify potential projects and opportunities
• Takes significant responsibility and has autonomy in the planning and implementation of solutions
• Relevant experience performing cartographic processes, map production and maintenance, importing GIS data from field and survey data, manipulating basic data in MS Excel

Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
• Gained exposure to 2–3 different technical environments (projects/operations/funnel stages)
• Experience in the petroleum, mining or engineering industries (experience with the CSG and coal industries would be an advantage)
• Can oversee the work of others and ensures team members have appropriate skills
• Ability to communicate with government, contractors, consultants and management
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
