Specialist Engineer - Aerodynamics - 30940
Our Client is a world leading Automotive OEM which is responsible for some of the most iconic 4x4's & Sports Cars produced. Due to the huge demand for current models and substantial investment in future projects there is a requirement for more resources across the business in engineering & manufacturing on a contract basis.
Aerodynamics is an attribute group located within the TASE department. It is responsible for the delivery of aerodynamic requirements for all vehicle programmes as well as the development of associated processes and tool-sets. The aerodynamic attribute requirements include: Aero drag (CD) reduction and target delivery (competitor / EV range driven) through development of upper body design, underbody smoothing and parasitic drag reduction technologies. This supports the client CO2 targets, EV development and WLTP compliance. Also, aero lift delivery to support vehicle dynamics requirements. The aerodynamic department also develops vehicles and their systems to maintain appropriate body loading (both static and dynamic). The attribute team leader will be motivated to pursue project and technical interaction with Vehicle engineering, Design (styling) and all related business areas with the expectation to proactively report-out issues and opportunities at every business level when required. The PAT leader will be expected to be a proactive, technically experienced person with great presentation skills in order to resolve aerodynamic issues throughout the business and will, in a short period, move to deliver Aerodynamic architecture solutions as part of the on-going role development. The candidate will also be expected to fully integrate within the rest of the team (c.90 people). The role is varied and allows the chosen candidate to demonstrate their technical and programme management skills and ability to resolve issues with a customer mind-set.
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
3 KEY SKILLS REQUIRED
1. Applicants should ideally have some experience of testing in climatic, aerodynamic or acoustic wind tunnels and analysing results.
2. Applicants should ideally have experience of conducting or interpreting CFD / CAE analyses
3. Applicants should ideally have experience of presenting to / working with relevant product design functions, especially Exterior Trim, Design and Integration / Vehicle engineering departments
proven automotive experience with demonstrable project management experience. Ability to mentor other team members should be demonstrable. Technical Degree required.
Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
Technical knowledge of thermal / cooling systems / airflow is essential and general 'vehicle' engineering experience is essential. Also, knowledge of EV or electrified vehicle cooling systems is advantageous.
Mentoring skills should be demonstrated. Applicants should be educated to Degree level with a minimum of 3 years of automotive experience.
