The Role:
1.Daily Meetings with Automation Engineers

Follows up outstanding issues, advises, and initiates technical discussions among engineers, updates and reports system defects.
Supervises and advises engineers whenever necessary for day-to-day activities.
Ensures HSE regulations and safety rules are being followed.
Ensures engineer’s administrative requirements are fulfilled.
Carries out long term and short term Planning.
Follows up on the execution of projects and discusses the stages of implementation and initiates solutions when needed.
Follows up on the In-house soft-ware development progresses. Gets Updates on system current status, recent system defect if any and major daily plan.
To update Automation Section Head of critical items and take his advice.
To highlight area of concern to Automation Section Head as necessary.
To ensure Safety and HSE guideline are in place.
To ensure full coordination between technical issues and administrative needs.
To ensure workload and services are carried out without interruption.

2.Process Control Network Daily Maintenance
Identifies requirements for DCS systems, advanced process control systems, process optimisation technology and presents to management with appropriate justifications for approval.
Discusses major issues with Process engineering personnel of Technical Services Department and coordinates requirements as necessary.
Supervises and advises on system configuration activities carried out in Distribution Control System (DCS), APC, PI and advanced plant automation
To ensure reliability and smooth running without interruption and with high performance and maximum data availability.

3.System modification & enhancements.
Provides alternative conceptual designs of control systems required by users for new projects or new system modifications.
Directs subordinate engineers and participates in analysing user requirements.
Discusses problems encountered with Supervisor or users for resolution.
Liaises closely with process Engineering Section on plant optimisation issues from software point of view.
Provides advice and assistance to Process Engineers and process operations on any modification or amendment required for existing DCS applications and logic design.
To ensure configuration of the new designs such as ESR modification or any users requirements to be in line with operations’ current requirements and needs.


4. In-House Application’s Development
Directs automation engineers and participates in analysing operation and other departments DCS requirements for an in house applications implemented and integrated to process control after the approval and the discussion with Automation Section Head.
To meet the new requirements and introduce new technology and advanced features to the system.

5. Coordination of External Consultants and Contractors
Coordinates and supervises the work of external DCS consultants, contractors or engineers.
Follows up their work progress and performance, approves time sheets for manpower allocation and time spent, and presents invoices for payment as appropriate to the Automation Section Head for approval.
Coordinates with company’s Support team in HQ as required.
To ensure smooth commissioning with minimum risks and to ensure contractors fulfilling the scope of requirements.
To ensure handover of hardware and software in a reliable and trouble free condition.
Ensuring timely completion of projects/ tasks and their compliance with the agreed standards and schedule.

6. Data Processing Budget
Prepares preliminary budget estimates and requirements for all capital and operating items related to the automation group and pertaining to data processing activities in the plant and presents it to Automation Section Head for discussion and subsequent approval.
Directs and manages obtaining quotations for the approved budget items and issuing PRs.
Directs and manages the initial technical evaluation of the ordered items, and the delivery of the new materials with arranging the installation procedures making sure that the technical specification are as requested.
To Ensure adequate budget consolidation prior to submission to section head for management approval.
To ensure that the ordered items match the requested and the approved budgeted items.

7. Projects Participation with Vendors
Carries out or reviews feasibility studies for new or modified DCS and advanced control related projects in addition to participating in the review of technical design of new DCS systems.
Participates in projects tests (e.g. FAT, SIT and SAT)
Highlights punch lists items and areas of concern to the company.
Ensures proper design and implementation, continual review and updating of such systems and raises suggestions for improving design methodologies to ensure that requirements are fulfilled.


8. Developees Training Programs
Participates in the development of training programmes for National employees undergoing on-the-job training.
Provides guidance and counselling to trainees, developees and other subordinates with a clear objective of career development. To ensure that the trainees and developees undergoing the job training are provided with the necessary guidance and counselling.

9. Plant Systems Applications Support
Supports and maintains the business applications running at the site e.g. automation network such as PI, DCS Archival and DCS interface applications running within the DCS. To ensure that these applications are running and providing services to the users with high performance and without interruption to their subsystems.

10. Data Backup
Directs subordinate engineers to ensure availability of data and software license.
To ensure that the performed backup is efficient and reliable in the emergency cases.
To ensure crisis data recovery and data availability.

11. HSE
Coordinates with Safety and Fire Department on the issue of work permit as well as training of operating personnel in safe practices and emergency handling, also to be sure that systems engineers are taking care to follow safety rules as per the company policies and procedures.
To ensure that operating personnel are well equipped with safety practices and emergency handling that leads to safe operating conditions in line with company’s HSE procedures to eliminate incidents/accidents and loss of time.

- Directs and supervises the activities of assigned personnel.
- Directs, supervises and participates in the administration, upgrading and maintenance of servers related to the system’s group at RRD.
- Participates in the Business Applications for in-house development and implementation in order to provide overall enhancements and productivity.
- Coordinates and supervises the work of the external consultants and contractors related to the office Automation system.
- Reviews and comments on engineering projects including initiating and developing work to improve RRD departments’ efficiency, flexibility, and safety.

- Automation engineer: To perform all the support issues and activities and to handle the workload in the Automation group in a safe and efficient manner.

Internally: Frequent contacts with plant department’s employees up to the department manager’s level, to discuss and coordinate day-to-day support requirements.
Externally: Regular contacts with outside consultants / Contractors up to Manager Level to provide field supervision and guidance on contract projects.

The job of Sr. Automation Engineer is the second level job at Automation Section and reporting directly to Automation Section Head. The jobholder is responsible for the daily / planned maintenance and projects follow up activities related to DCS, Plant automation network, Real Time database and related DCS in-house development and Data processing budget requirement preparation.

The job requires alertness and implementation of professional development & support policies and procedures related to office automation computers, servers and data network and their applications. Continuous follow-ups / tracking performance of the long term planned and day-to-day jobs.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- B.Sc. in Chemical or Electronics engineering..
- 7 Years experience in refinery and process control applications and databases
- Working Experience in Foxboro is a must
- Good knowledge of English both written and spoken.
- Computer literate.
