The Company:
Our client, a diverse Canadian Energy Company, plans new developments estimated at $12+ Billion over the next 5 years.This position is open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents only. Residents of Newfoundland & Labrador will be given first consideration for this position.

We are currently looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer that lives in or near Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Role:
As a Senior Electrical Engineer your main responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

Involvement in the design, construction and commissioning of HVdc Specialties installations.
Participate in shop surveillance and factory acceptance tests
Complete detailed technical reviews of Contractor submittals and technical data (including, but not limited to, drawings, specifications, design studies, technical reports, etc.) to verify conformity with the Scope of Work, project design criteria.
Explore, analyze, and introduce new design concepts, solutions, and innovative methods for achieving the Project's strategic objectives, relying on basic theory, first principles, and original ideas
Organize and lead meetings, related to project delivery aspects, working to resolve issues that could impact overall performance objectives
Visit Site(s) as often as is necessary to monitor compliance with the specifications, prepare independent site visit reports and inform functional groups of deviations (Quality, Completions, LCP construction management)

The incumbent will perform the duties of an Electrical Engineer, primarily specializing in the areas of substations, power systems, high voltage, medium voltage and low voltage switchgear, and electrical distribution.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Required Competencies:

10 + years successful experience in substation engineering.
Background in engineering, design and construction of substations including familiarity with the following:
- HV equipment design and specifications
- AIS/GIS substation design concepts and requirements
- Substation design experience with GIS and AIS equipment
- Managing interface for civil & structural design with electrical equipment design
- Industry standards relating to substation design
- Substation grounding
- Lightning protection and insulation coordination concepts
- Lighting and station service design
- Switchgear and/or Protection and Control building design
- Power Transformers
Strong background with resolution of technical issues during projects planning and execution phases.
Familiar with / experience in electrical studies (PSS/E, Harmonic Load Flow, grounding, arc flash etc.)
Familiarity with codes and standards applicable with the discipline such as Cigre, IEEE, IEC, CSA

Working conditions:

Worksite will be Lower Churchill Project Office, St. John's, NL (primary) and construction Sites at Churchill Falls, Muskrat Falls and Soldiers Pond.
Occasional travel out of Province and out of country for shop surveillance and factory acceptance tests
The incumbent will work primarily in an office environment; however, travel to vendor sites and project Site(s) will be required.
These latter work environments will be industrial in nature and exposure to noise, dust and other industrial emissions may occur (knowledge of the use and the wearing of personal safety gear is a must).
May be required to work at heights and entire confined spaces with appropriate training.
