The Role:
The Machinery Reliability Engineer provides technical advice and strategic support intended to maximize availability and optimize the life cycle costs of new and existing machinery equipment systems.

•Develops and leads site wide initiatives assigned to particular asset classes to improve process safety, reliability, and cost performance.
•Lead or participate in RCFA (root cause failure analysis), FMEA (failure mode effective analysis) or engineering studies to develop solutions for major or systemic problems.
•Provide rotating equipment technical support to process engineering, project engineering, and other technical groups in the development and implementation of projects and plant revisions.
•Assist the Asset Reliability Engineers and Rotating Equipment Specialists when troubleshooting rotating equipment problems.
•Assist in the development of less experience Rotating Equipment Engineers, Area Reliability Engineers, Rotating Equipment Specialist, Maintenance personnel, and other Technical Staff
•Advocate applicable corporate and develop site specific engineering standards.
•Lead the development of discipline specific MOCs and participate in PHA (process hazard analysis) & MOCs (management of change) that require cross-functional review.
•Develop or review operating procedures for plant rotating equipment as needed.
•Define process and mechanical safe operating limits for machinery.
•Develop long term plans for assign asset class.
•Recommend design improvements to increase the reliability of equipment categorized as a bad actor.
•Develop maintenance strategy for new installations and review strategies for existing equipment as needed (i.e. PVM, spare parts).
•Develop engineering packages, overhaul scope and/or procedures for major pieces of rotating equipment.
•Support the resolution of corporate Operation Excellence non-conformance findings.
•Develop site specific addendum to corporate standards.
•Develop site specific standards for items not covered by the corporate standards.
•Evaluate deviations to site specific or corporate standard.
•Evaluate deferral requests for inspections, repairs, preventive maintenance, and Turnaround.
•Evaluate and approve machinery design changes.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
•This position requires: B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 8-10 years of work experience in the refining/petrochemical industry.
•Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization as well as for mentoring and consensus building.
•The successful candidate must have strong commitment to safety, a high level of personal integrity, and dedication to conducting business in an ethical way.
