The Company:
Our client is a nuclear specialist, covering both civilian and defence sectors, across the complete lifecycle from New Build, through Operations and Maintenance, to final decommissioning and waste disposal.

The Role:
The Senior Stress Calculations Engineer is a key design delivery role from a technical perspective working across and supporting a multi-disciplined design team. The Senior Stress Calculations Engineer is mainly responsible for delivering the required supporting calculations for designs within their own discipline. There is also a requirement for frequent liaison / management of engineers within the design team from other disciplines. The Senior Stress Calculations Engineer also provides technical guidance and imparts knowledge to other Engineers across all grades (Seniors, Leads, Design Engineers, Graduates and Designers) to promote learning and knowledge exchange.

• The Stress engineer will be involved in the production of calculations (at an appropriate level) to underpin the designs and justification reports that may be required to satisfy the contract requirements and any associated Safety Case documentation.
• Checking and approving design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team.
• Develop and mentor staff to provide a ‘’best in class’’ in house calculations a team within the C180 engineering using ANSYS FEA software as part of the 3D AutoCAD Inventor software suite, supplemented by MathCAD and other platforms used within the business. This will apply across all the sites.
• Support to design reviews, safety reviews (risk assessments/ HAZOP’s) from technical standpoint within discipline.
• Close liaison with client and project team to define the requirements and scope of technical calculations and specifications for the design done by the project (internal or by external organisations).
• Ensure quality and delivery of design documentation throughout the design process including scope of works, technical files and other technical documentation to comply with design standards, safety legislation/regulatory requirements and the needs of the client.
• Other duties of the Stress Engineer will involve allocation of work to other members of team in order to ensure delivery of design to quality, time and budget.
• Selection, strategy and management of work to sub-contractors.
• Technical champion for stress calculations and liaison with Client appointed Independent Assessor when required
