The Company:
The company designs, constructs, transports, installs and removes offshore facilities for the global oil and gas industry. During the last decades they have become a significant international player in the offshore oil and gas construction industry. The Group consists of two divisions, each with a specific role in the activities of the Group

The Role:
We are looking for a Structural Design Engineer until June 2015.

The main areas are:-

• Design and detail all major temp works
• To carry out local and global analysis of deck sections / structures with respects to lifts and moves (using STAAD)
• To produce construction methods statements / build sequence and procedures
• To liaise with heavy lift / site move subcontractor to develop lift plans
• To liaise with subcontractors, construction and project team to co-ordinate temp work requirements including load outs and weighing of structures


Structural Design Engineer

Reports to : Production Support & Engineering Manager
Liaises with : Other Project Personnel/Production
Directs : Subcontractors


1. Function:
To provide discipline design engineering support to the Production Support Manager. To prepare, plan & co-ordinate with sub-contractors and production to deliver the disciplinary design and deliverables. To conform legislation and regulations, technical guidelines and specifications of the client to realise engineering scope.

The role to be responsible for the temporary works associated with module and platform construction, dealing with deck and sub assembly lifts, deck moves around the yard and load out of completed structures.

The role includes interfaces and co-ordinating with the heavy lift contractor to ensure that all activities are safely completed on time and in accordance with procedures

2 Responsibilities:
To ensure adherence to Company Policy and procedures.
Quality, safety, health and environmental awareness (e.g. responsible for own and others safety).
To perform tasks which may be requested by management, from time to time.
To perform tasks delegated by the Production Support Manager.
To liaise with Client concerning their discipline.
To ensure correct implementation of the Company quality, safety and environmental policy within the Company and verify that the Company quality, safety and environmental procedures are followed.
- To ensure that procedures are maintained during the project.
- To identify and report possible problems to the Production Support Manager and recommend possible solutions for such problems.
- To attend meetings relating to their discipline and maintain liaison with the various disciplines.
- To control engineering within their discipline: i.e.
- Plan and co-ordinate activities in accordance with project schedules.
- Co-ordinate and control the activities of the design group.
- Project specific procedure control and approval.
- Inter-discipline checks.

- To control and monitor Subcontractors within their discipline.
- To monitor the Subcontractor’s progress and inform the Project Manager/Head of Planning.
- To instruct the Subcontractor, via the Project Manager, concerning design changes/requests.
- To witness checks by the Subcontractor.
- To review and approve final and system handover documentation packages before forwarding to the QC Department.
- To ensure that activities are performed under safe conditions.
- Identify and highlight any further training requirements of their personnel.
- To review tender technical specifications and build sequence and advise alternative design options to optimise the technical concept.


- Contributes to new methods/procedures and improves existing methods, systems and procedures.
- To deliver input to subcontract documents to define scope of work and quality aspects required of the subcontractor.
- Co-ordinate input from subcontractor with regard to load out, assess defined load out method, provide input on technical feasibility and technical details as needed.
- To assist with preparation of fabrication shop drawings and supplementary technical documentation, ensuring documents contain sufficient detailed information to allow
fabrication to take place.
- To review and comment on subcontract documents.
- To give guidance and support to Junior Engineers including checking their calculations and work.

3 Authority:
- To agree and accept design house procedures.
- Authorisation levels as detailed in GP-04-01.

4 Competency Requirements:
- Successful SHE Induction.
- Degree in Engineering discipline, e.g. structural.
- Minimum 5 years experience in an engineering design office.
- Planning and organisational skills that enable the implementation of their duties and the Company strategy.
- Communicate in a positive manner with all staff and departmental managers.
- An understanding of Company quality, safety, health & environmental systems and programmes.
- Must be computer literate.
