The Company:
Our client is one of the worlds largest providers of technical services across a wide range of sectors, including nuclear.

The Role:
Our client is looking for an experienced Structural Engineer to be based on site at Sellafield.
Reports to:- C,S&A Site Architects Team Leader
Manages:- Typically 2-3 ‘CS&A Engineering Technicians’
Sector Nuclear


The role requires the ‘Structural Engineer’ to provide specialist engineering design core skills. This will involve the management and production of ‘Structural / Civil Engineering Design packages’ to support the delivery of Life Time Plans that best meets our customer’s needs both now and in the future. The work will typically include small to medium sized tasks with a ‘quick turn around’ to support plant / operations and projects as required. The candidate will be expected to undertake the necessary design and design management tasks as required by the CS&A Site Architects Team Leader.

Typical Structural / Civil Engineering Duties:

Production of calculations (hand and computational structural analysis) to support design packages within the office.
Assessment of existing buildings / components covering structural performance issues (including input to Design Assessment Reports / COSR etc).
Design and assessment of structures and plant to withstand normal operation loadings using ‘Staad Pro / Tedds / and other industry standard analysis and design software packages.
The undertaking of civil / structural site surveys including condition / line-level and structural.
Use of Autocad 2007 and associated support packages to produce design drawings.
Checking and approval of engineering design packages and peer reviewing contractors temporary works.

Typical Engineering Management Skills:
Interfacing with clients and regulators to provide specialist engineering advice which best meet the project and overall business needs.
Reviewing documentation and providing CS&A support to projects acting in an intelligent customer role.
Ensuring that the Engineering is customer focussed to provide demonstrable added value.
Undertaking of the ‘CS&A Responsible Engineer Role’ to support site projects / tasks and the Site Structural Engineer / C,S&A Team Leader.
Management of design packages from ‘conception to construction’ including production of D&E estimates / Programmes and Cost Schedules.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Experienced Structural Design engineer with nuclear background
Staad Pro/Tedds/Autocad experience
Design and assessment of buildings/structures/plant experience
Able to carry out calculations - hand and computational.
