The Role:
Responsible for Management of Topsides Inspection contractor in support of all aspects of structural integrity management.

Responsible for development and continual improvement of risk based Topsides Structural Inspection Strategies.

Responsible for technical content and timely execution of annual topsides structural inspection plans. Review and technical approval of deferrals as required.

Responsible for review of inspection results and rigorous implementation of ‘inspection query’ process. Responsible for oversight of follow on Repair Order and Fabric Maintenance processes for structural defects. This will involve ensuring robust execution plans are in place, defining detailed scopes of work, providing technical review and endorsement and acting as technical authority for deferrals as required.

Responsible for working with ‘shutdown teams’ and ‘life extension campaign’ teams to define scope of significant structural scopes and determine execution strategies.

Responsible for the implementation of Integrity Risk Management process aligned to the Region's Risk Management process to ensure an integrity risk can be calibrated against other business risks.

Responsible for management of structural related compliance actions and annual formal technical assessments of structure.

Responsible for compliance with relevant Industry and Company codes / standards / technical practices. Provide technical input to the updates / development of company technical practices.

Required to undertake offshore site visits to audit the effectiveness of structural integrity management system


This position is for a Structures Integrity Engineer working in the Operations Division of BP’s North Sea Business Unit. The successful candidate will report to the Structural Integrity team leader and will be part of a wider multidiscipline team managing the integrity of BP’s portfolio of UK offshore assets.

This is a newly created role which recognises and elevates the importance of structural integrity management in ensuring a sustainable operation for asset ‘Life of Field’. With a portfolio that includes older assets, some past original design life, this presents a considerable and challenge. This role will require the rigorous application of an already established Structural Integrity Management System. It also provides a great opportunity to shape and deliver improvements in all aspects of Structural Integrity Management. The role will require someone with flare for driving consistency, identifying and embedding best practice and managing a cycle of continuous improvement. The role will also contribute to BP’s global community of practice in the area of offshore structural integrity management.

The successful individual will ideally have a solid background in offshore structural engineering although candidates with relevant experience from other industries would also be considered. Direct or related experience in integrity management, the application of risk-based methods and systems, knowledge and application of organizational and competency requirements to deliver integrity management, knowledge and application of structural inspection techniques, and the application of inspection data interpretation and analysis, are all sought.

Strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication and good time management skills are essential for this role. The ability to exercise expert judgment to challenging operational technical issues, while creating energy and direction within the discipline are particularly valued.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Degree level qualified in Civil/Structural /Mechanical Engineering. Other candidates who have extensive relevant experience in Structural Integrity Management may also be considered.

Chartered Engineer Status. Individuals actively working towards professional membership of an appropriate institute (ICE, I StructE or IMechE) will also be considered.

Experience working in offshore structural engineering teams.

Experience / understanding of operators’ perspective of SIM.

Understanding of relevant Industry codes, in particular, BS, AISC, & ISO for onshore structures (content and intent).

Understanding of linear and non-linear FEA analysis techniques. Understanding of advanced structural analysis techniques: pushover, seismic, response to fire & explosion.

Working knowledge and experience of integrity data management systems and data management practice.

Working knowledge of risk identification, evaluation and mitigation methods.
