The Role:
To undertake subsea engineering and projects, and to mentor and coach other engineers as required.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1.Ensure risks associated with Major Accident Hazards for Subsea Systems are fully understood, and are being effectively managed.
2.Ensure that Subsea systems are compliant with national and international rules and regulations, as well as industry best practice.
3.Manage priorities of Subsea tasks to ensure each is delivered on time.
4.Provide specialist support and advice to other groups such as: HES; Commercial; Operations; and Drilling.
5.Monitor and supervise the subcontractors employed on Subsea tasks.
6.Provide input to department budgets and plans.
7.Maintain the Underwater Operations Manual.

JOB CONTEXT AND MAIN ACTIVITIES

The Subsea Systems Technical Authority is the MSGB single point authority for Subsea systems. The TA is employed in the Facilities Engineering group. The role of the TA is to both deliver services for other groups, e.g. manage and implement projects, and to provide oversight of the management of systems covered by their discipline.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties include:

1.Active participation in safety reviews, in the Safety Case, and in discipline related standards and procedures. This can be by writing such input, or reviewing input by others.
2.Identifying priorities and implementing plans to deliver those priorities.
3.Managing specialist vendors by ensuring that their scope is properly defined, that they are making progress as expected, and working within the assigned budget.
4.Ensuring projects deliver their intended purpose, by ensuring proper definition, and by requiring the proper testing (FAT/SIT/SAT), and providing qualified witnessing of such testing.
5.Ensuring compliance with industry standards, by ensuring that competent personnel are employed on Subsea tasks, and by active participation in meetings and IDC reviews.
6.Providing specialist inputs to key customers to ensure that they understand what can be achieved, and to help identify the best possible solutions.
7.Taking active part in partner liaison as requested.
8.Taking active part in safety reviews.
9.Attend at site (offshore installations, dive vessels) to lead dive campaigns, installation and commissioning activities as required.
10.Liaise with the Facilities Engineering Supervisor to ensure that priorities and resource requirements are understood.
11. Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
12.Provide active assistance to other projects as required.
13.Identify, specify and purchase materials in good time to ensure delivery when required.
14.Provide workpacks and procedures for installation, testing and commissioning activities.
15.Maintain internal networks with Subsea engineers throughout company, to allow knowledge sharing.
16.Maintain external networks with industry bodies, such as UKOOA, to allow knowledge sharing.
17.Review of discipline related PMRS.
18.TA internal audits as required.
19.Review, approve (or reject) requests for deviations from discipline technical standards and procedures.
20.Updates of assigned critical documents as required, e.g. Underwater Operations Manual.
21.Review of discipline related Concessions.
22.Ensure audit of contractors to verify competence.
23.Ensure underwater operations comply with the appropriate diving regulations, ACOPS, industry standards and company documents.

DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY

1. Responsible for discipline procedures
2. Reviews and makes recommendations with respect to modification proposals
3. Reviews and makes recommendations with respect to operating procedures
4. Reviews and makes recommendations with regards to support and spares requirements
5. Reviews and makes recommendations with respect to non-comformances

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Engineering degree in relevant technical discipline
- Experience in Subsea systems
- Chartered Engineer, or eligible to be Chartered
- Detailed knowledge and experience with design, fabrication and operation of Subsea systems
- Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and standards
- Experience with planning and control of technical projects
