The Role:
Role Synopsis
From Exploration to Production, Information & Data Management staff deliver crucial roles to ensure that our Upstream Functions have the data and analysis that they need to find and produce reserves. As a Subsurface Information Management Specialist you will work within Subsurface Information Management managing a range of subsurface information and data types across the different parts of the Upstream Lifecycle. Those in our Information and Data Management teams are responsible for ensuring that the $10 billion+ asset for Upstream Client are fit for purpose, discoverable and accessible. This is achieved by managing the information and data throughout the Upstream lifecycle, enabling the company to maximise value in the exploration, development and production of the oil and gas fields.

The team controls, protects and facilitates timely access to quality assured information & data for consumers across the Subsurface group, and are required to work with many types of subsurface information and data including seismic, well, spatial, and production data. The objectives of the role are to support the development, execution and supervision of plans, policies, programmes and practices that support daily activities, and mitigate operational, commercial and reputational risks arising from incorrect information and data.

Reporting to the Africa Subsurface Information Manager, typical responsibilities range from:
* Strategic Leadership, Information and Data Management Improvement - Influencing decisions relating to Region and Function Subsurface Information Management (SIM) solutions. They will also observe at a variety of meetings how the governance and decision making for SIM works at different levels (i.e. within a Region, within a sub-Discipline, within a Function etc.), and how effectively those decisions are integrated into Subsurface Teams.
* Efficient Operational Support to Subsurface Teams, ensuring Better Access to Trusted Information and Data - Managing the data lifecycle for knowledge and information sharing platforms, including administration and preparation of digital and physical data for use in Subsurface workflows and technical systems, as well as the receipt and distribution to and from third parties, e.g. partners, contractors and regulatory authorities.
* Processes and Standards- Ensuring information and data workflows, maintenance and quality control processes exist and are followed.
* Communications & Engagement - Engagement with other SIM professionals across a variety of Functions, being mentored by their Line Manager and Function Data/Information Leads

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
* Bachelor Degree in Geoscience, Engineering, or Data Science or equivalent experience
* Extensive experience in the Upstream oil industry in management of subsurface information & data
* Deep understanding of subsurface workflows and the management of the information and data types associated with those workflows
* Conversant in key Upstream oil industry data formats used to exchange and load data to application and database systems (SEGY, UKOOA, LIS, LAS, DLIS, ArcGIS-SHP, MXD, LYR, etc.)
* Extensive I&DM application skills, working with both structured and unstructured information and data
* Conversant in key applications/databases used by the Subsurface business with knowledge of their I&DM requirements (Petrel/Studio, Landmark/OpenWorks, Recall, ArcGIS, SDE, Spotfire, SQL, Python, etc.)
* Career goal within the subsurface data management discipline
