The Role:
Carry out duties assigned by the BTK manager and the teacher/coordinator.
• Establish, develop and maintain positive working relationships with the BTK teacher assistants, BTK teacher, other members of staff, parents and students.
• Assist in the effective running of the class as prescribed by the teacher.
• Assist the teacher in the planning, preparation and evaluation of learning activities.
• Maintain a high level of awareness of the purpose, task and sequence of activities.
• Support individual students and small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills as designed and approved by the teacher.
• Support students with behavioural, emotional and social development needs.
• Guide independent actions and enrichment of play.
• Support and promote the maintenance of student safety, security, health and hygiene.
• Contribute to the management of student behaviour, guiding students in working and playing harmoniously with others in a variety of settings.
• Maintain order and discipline while children are in the classroom, taking students from and too other classes, and elsewhere in the school as necessary.
• Supervise children during recess and lunch.
• Read all school communications and e-mail promptly and thoroughly.
• Observe and report on student performance.
• Assist with maintenance of student records and portfolio’s.
• Assist in preparing and maintaining the learning environment (tidying up, collecting and producing materials, making displays).
• Use of ICT (in the classroom) through operating IT/AV equipment, camera and video.
• Participate in professional development training as required.
• Review and develop professional practices through appraisal and without if required.
• Maintain the same high level of ethical behaviour and confidentiality of information as is expected of a member of the teaching staff.
• Dress in an appropriately professional manner.
• Assist in parent conferences when translations are required.
• Carry out scheduled duties like nappy changing and kitchen duty.
• Assist the afternoon supervisor in the planning, preparing, caring out and evaluating of activities.
• Carry out any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

The ideal candidate will have the confidence to be able to communicate effectively with students and teachers and to take appropriate initiatives in carrying out tasks. Candidate should be able to adapt quickly to new situations and be able to use strategies for supporting students and implement them independently.
