The Role:
Main Purpose of Role
The primary purpose of this role is to lead and support the design and architecture of our systems development activities, focussing on particular projects in both of the above-mentioned themes. Our activities are organised into project teams and for this role you will typically be working with a Project Manager and development team, demonstrating clear ownership and responsibility for the design/architecture decisions and maintaining central project involvement throughout to drive through the delivery in accordance with those decisions.
For this role it is essential that the Technical Architect has relevant experience of delivering high-availability high-reliability systems in control environments (preferably in sectors such as transport, utilities, logistics or defence) with volume transactions. Systems must scale, be highly performant and designed to security and safety requirements. High standards of quality are essential, and we are looking for individuals who are self-motivated and tenacious, strongly process-orientated, attentive to detail and able to grasp the business concepts involved quickly in a challenging environment.
Key Elements of Role
 Talk to the project team and clients to understand business and technical requirements.
 Review, enhance and translate business requirements and product vision into application architecture design and deployment.
 Take design/architectural decisions and communicate decisions and technical constraints to the project team and other relevant stakeholders
 Guide and drive the project team to deliver solutions in line with the defined design/architecture
 Define supporting technical infrastructure and integration.
 Understand business architecture artefacts including current state architecture, target state architecture, architectural roadmaps, referential architecture models and technology standards.
 Develop business, information, technical, solution-specification documentation as required
 Review and assess impact of proposed scope changes to the future state architecture.
 Involvement in full lifecycle software application design and development
 Production of software and associated deliverables in accordance with specifications and business quality standards
 Active engagement with peers in design and review QA process, including continual improvement
 Ability to accurately estimate packages of work, and subsequently deliver to deadline and budget
 Research into technology and application systems

Experience and Knowledge
 Shows evidence of analytical ability with attention to detail and quality
 Has a broad understanding of all stages of systems development and service delivery (7+ years)
 Demonstrates good inter-personal skills. (10+years).
 Communicates persuasively and demonstrates the ability to make development related decision (7+ years)
 Experience of delivering high-availability high-reliability systems in control environments with volume transactions, with particular emphasis on systems which are scalable, highly performant, and designed to security and safety requirements (5+ years)
Technical / Function Skills
 Expert knowledge, specialising in the area of full applications lifecycle development methodologies (eg RUP, Waterfall, Agile) either from a delivery or consultancy background (7+ Years)
 Expert in all Software Delivery stages and Architecture (7+ Years)
 Expert Knowledge of OOAD, JSE and JEE programming (7+ Years)
 Expert in Component Based Development (7+ years)
 Expert in Service Orientated and Event Driven Architectures (7+ Years)
 Expert in UML (5+ Years)
 Expert in the use of Quality Methods and Analysis, Design, Development, Testing processes (7+ Years)
 Expert in delivery of N-Tier, Scalable, Resilient Enterprise systems (7+ Years)
 Expert in Iterative Development (5+ years)
 Proficient in using ESB Technologies (5+ years)
 Proficient in enhancing existing software development processes (5+ Years)
 Proficient in Performance Testing and Performance Test Tools (5+ Years)
 Proficient in Reviewing all aspects of the Development Lifecycle Deliveries (5+ Years)
 Proficient in Linux (5+ years)
 Strong Knowledge of Windows (3+ years)
 Strong Knowledge of Real-time Systems (for example, in a Safety or Military context) and performance tuning (3+ Years)
 Strong Knowledge of Messaging System like IBM WMQ and Broker technologies (3+ Years)
 Strong Knowledge of Security Technologies (3+ Years)
 Strong Knowledge of Network Protocols (3+ Years)
