The Role:
The role of technical assistant within the department is to assist engineers with the control and tracking of technical documentation. The ideal candidate will be able to develop and grow this role whilst supporting the Engineering staff on a day to day basis. It is expected that the Technical Assistant will be familiar with or will have functioned previously within a Technical environment.

Responsibilities are carried out within a regional structure environment whereby normal line management reporting is to the Departmental Manager. Project, workload and priority reporting is to the Project Engineer, Programme Manager or SLS Support Engineer.

• Provide a consistent and controlled method for administration tasks within the Engineering group as required.
• Provide a consistent and controlled method for the updating of AutoCAD drawings and any associated documentation as required.
• Provide a consistent and controlled method for the processing/creation of Materials/BOMs in SAP.
o Ensuring technical standards are maintained and items are linked to the correct documentation.
o Ensuring compliance with naming convention guidelines, classification guidelines and traceability guidelines and provide advice to engineers on these issues where appropriate.
o Ensuring correct and consistent plant specific material settings.
o Advise Engineers of any quality issues or requirements in materials according to engineering instructions and company guidelines.
o Review existing databases against new material requests and advise/review with Engineers of all available standard materials, to avoid material duplication
o Review materials created monthly for consistency in applied settings.
o Act as a point of contact for engineering for all SAP material issues.
• Provide advice to engineers on correct SDRL use and act as a point of contact for supply chain regarding allocating SDRLs to materials being purchased where an SDRL is not already linked to the material.
• Provide support to Engineers, and/or Project Engineers and Project Managers of requirement for ECO’s arising from material changes
• Process engineering material reports for live projects, including passing summary reports to project engineers.
o Manage the resolution with engineers on actions arising from Design Reviews.
o Provide support to engineers in investigating and resolving issues highlighted by the engineering material report.
o Addressing any issues arising in the reports relating to SDRL and traceability problems in the materials.
• Receive instructions and marked documents from Engineers. Interpret the information and update the documents as required highlighting any inconsistencies or errors to the engineer that may need addressed. Ensure clear and consistent company format and technical standards are used throughout.
• Provide a consistent and controlled method to assist, analyse and troubleshoot any problems/issues within the SAP system.
o Advise SAP PLM team of issues or process improvements within SAP that require to be addressed and advise the best solution.
o In addition to various SAP duties ensuring correspondence with relevant departments that may be affected by engineering/manufacturing/SAP changes.
• Provide a consistent and controlled method for the creation and advanced editing of various types of data using software such as Visio, Project, Word, Excel and Paintshop.
• Liaise with engineers / managers to ensure requirements and deadlines are being met.
• Additionally, when workload demands, the job holder may be assigned other duties as defined by their Supervisor or Line Manager.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Minimum: Standard Grade level 2 relevant passes or equivalent
• Desirable: HNC / HND in Engineering or Business Administration or NVQ to level 3 or equivalent.
• Knowledge of SAP
• AutoCAD C & G, AutoCAD Essentials course or equivalent is desirable.
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project and Paintshop.
