The Company:
Our Client is a major oil and gas operator who has operations throughout the world. This role will be working within the Safety & Operational Risk arm of my client's business. My client offer a technically challenging environment working for one of the leaders in the oil and gas industry.

The Role:
The Safety and Operational Risk Audit Team identifies gaps in implementation of safety and operational standards to help create the understanding and management of group safety and operational risk.

This role will be based in either the USA or the London area of the UK. There will be 30-40% global travel required for this role. The ideal candidate will be from a chemical downstream background.

To provide overall technical leadership within the engineering discipline to support process technology safety and to supply subject matter expert advice on protective systems and pressure relief systems related technical practices to the Segment. To advance technical support to the Segment through the safe and consistent application of laws/regulations, Company Technical Practices, and industry codes and standards.

Some key responsibilities:

Provide specialist advice to the VP Engineering, Process Safety & Risk, Chief Engineers, Entity EAs and TAs regarding technical risks specific to process technologies, protective systems, relief system design and deviations from established company standards and practices.

Observations with respect to risks of engineering equipment and pressure relief systems and recommendations for mitigation of such risks. Assistance to sites in ensuring consistency of policy and implementation on process technology process safety related issues, protective systems, and pressure relief systems across the Refining & Marketing segment sites. Feedback on requests for deviations (exceptions) to the Engineering Technical Practices (ETPs) and/or the Site Technical Practices (STPs). Intervenes and escalates to the SETA PHA/LOPA & Process Engineering unresolved process safety issues, gaps, and inconsistencies when needed.

Advise the Entity EAs on the necessary competencies/experience for Technical Authorities.
Provide advice to the Function/Engineering Leadership Team on the health of the present and successor population in the respective specialist discipline.
Technical focal point within associated Discipline Network or technical leader and Community of Practice (CoP).

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Engineering degree, Chemical Engineering required (or equivalent experience)

• Significant demonstrable technical and operational experience within the engineering speciality of process engineering, protective systems, and pressure relief systems associated with manufacturing process plants and facilities.
• Experience in process safety consequence modelling desirable.
• Deep understanding of related internal technical practices and industry codes/standards especially API 521 and other related API practices and ANSI S84.001.
• Demonstrated ability to engage and influence site technical and operations communities to effectively promote the process safety message and to implement relevant ETP’s.
• Ability to manage multiple/conflicting priorities with a strong track record of delivery.
• Proven track record of leadership and ability to build strong collaborative work relationships with the line and teams located across the organisation.
