The Role:
Providing first & second level support for workstation and server systems, including hardware, OS (Linux) and software configuration and storage configuration (Hitachi & NetApps). Ensuring problem/Incidents are tracked until resolution.
This requires working directly with customers on software, hardware and network issues.
Further develop skills and knowledge to support Linux & Windows VMware servers, Linux desktop systems (HP), Windows 64bit desktops, storage infrastructure (Hitachi, NetApps) through mentoring and testing.
Participating in Houston TC meetings, forums and conferences to build technical networks and ensure centrally set standards are implemented (& any exceptions are vetted & documented).
This position will ensure all ETC/BU hardware inventories and architecture diagrams are kept up-to-date and the associated systems are monitored and documented for IP compliance and performance. (using Visio-Zoom, BigBrother & Splank).
This position will support the computing infrastructure (including Clusters) at local and remote sites. Assisting geoscientists, Engineers and other TC support personnel. Technical training will be provided by the Senior Systems Administrators. The scope is broad covering all the processes which are required to maintain a high performance and technical computing environment within Chevron. The focus is on IP compliance, performance & system reliability.
This position can involve travel to other locations (including Europe, Australia, and US) assisting with system installation and upgrades. Out of hours and occasional weekend work will also be required (For system maintenance and installations)

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
Remote staff within ETC Technical Computing organisation benefit from having good communication and interpersonal skills. This is important when seeking the expertise of others to solve the complex technical problems across a geographically distributed customer base. This position requires someone who is a fast learner & someone who can work well in a team enironments. While some of the support tasks are based in the server room, much of the support requires a customer facing support persona, subsequently good phone & listening skills and an ability to respond with the required level of urgency. The position requires someone who is cognisant of the manual handling & electrical hazards associated with server and desktop hardware, following safe and secure maintenance protocols at all times.
