The Company:
Our Client is one of the world's largest Oil and Gas companies. Their operations cover the entire energy chain, including oil exploration and production to trading, shipping and refining and marketing of petroleum products, as well as chemicals. The Role:
The primary function of the role is to provide Safety Engineering support to the Project Engineering, and operations group on the Project and ensure that:
• The design complies with UK HSE legislation and the company Referential.
• Where the design does not comply with the company referential this is justified and appropriate derogation is sought.

The post holder will travel regularly to Shetland and other locations as part of their duties to give presentations on major hazards and contribute to engineering studies.

Activities
• Engineer is responsible for discipline specific work related to project needs.
• Supervise contractors work, ensuring that deliverables arrive in a timely manner efficiently and cost effectively and that productive and positive relationships with key contractors and suppliers are established and maintained.
• Review technical studies and reports from other disciplines and comment/make recommendations
• Carry out technical presentations/communication briefs to various departments and audiences
• Develop the technical specification for ongoing work. May coordinate other activities’ relating to the contracting process.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and statutory requirements through maintaining close contact with client departments and to advise relevant departments of requirements to comply with legislation, corporate and Group standards and guidance
• Provide safety engineering support to client departments within the project
• Supervised on work milestones
• Participate in incident investigations
• Produce technical reports/notes/dossiers
• Prepare derogations against Group rules and standards
• Participate in HAZID/HAZOP/SIC and other safety reviews
• Provide Safety Engineering input to Modification Assessments should they arise
• Participate in Technical Risk Assessments
• Undertake studies within the project and identify, evaluate and assess the hazards and risk associated with major hazards on project sites and installations and make recommendations based on these assessments.
• Assist in the preparation of COMAH/Safety Reports and related documentation.

Essential Skills / Qualifications:
• Relevant degree.
• Preferably relevant higher degree.
• Experience gained preferably in the oil and gas industry but nuclear or other industry experience would also be accepted.
• Thorough knowledge of UK Onshore and Offshore major hazards legislation.
• Membership of an appropriate professional body.
• Possession of an offshore survival certificate is an advantage.
